DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES (12 month)
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY CENTRAL OFFICE
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY SCHOOLS

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in education and a minimum of Class A certification in administration. A minimum of three years successful teaching experience. A minimum of three years successful experience as a school administrator preferred. Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in collaborative group settings. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. Knowledge and ability to interpret and implement Board policies and procedures.

JOB SUMMARY: The person in this position is responsible for directing and supervising TCSS programs, policies, and procedures that enhance student attendance, conduct, and success. This individual works closely with students and parents, local school administrators, Central Office staff, and outside agencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop student Attendance Policy and Procedures
2. Supervise the monthly and annual collection of attendance data.
3. Collect and maintain student enrollment, withdrawals, and transfers.
4. Assist the Finance and Personnel Departments by providing and analyzing attendance statistics to calculate the number of certified and support units.
5. Completes the annual Dropout Report to the State Department of Education.
6. Provide information to parents and the public on all schools and attendance matters.
7. Enforce the Tuscaloosa County School System's zoning policies.
8. Serve as the system's Homeless Liaison.
9. Assign identification numbers to students who do not have a social security number.
10. Develop and publish Code of Student Conduct and necessary policies (suspension, expulsion, etc.).
11. Coordinate and conduct student hearings and present cases to the Board of Education.
12. Place students in Alternative Classes. Conduct Pre and Post Placement Hearings for Alternative Class Assignments.
13. Maintain records of all discipline cases, suspensions, and expulsion.
14. Complete and submit Student Incident Report (SIR) to State Department of Education.
15. Develop and publish forms for suspension, detention, expulsion, pupil accounting, reporting truancy, check-in/out, excused and unexcused absences.
16. Assist the Personnel Department with student sexual harassment and bullying complaints.
17. Conduct home visitation.
18. Collect and maintain Safe School Reports
19. Supervise the storage of student cumulative records - closed school and old records from existing schools.
20. Maintain school census records.
21. Retrieve and furnish copies of student records when requested.
22. Coordinate and supervise the Section 504 Program guidelines and procedures including communication.
23. Represents the Tuscaloosa County Board of Education on community agencies and state committees.
24. Provide summary reports annually to the Board, Superintendent and State Department of activities in the department.
25. Assist in securing grants for the system in the area of student services.
26. Supervise the work of others assigned to the Student Services department.
27. Knowledge of Compulsory Attendance Laws.
28. Skills in public relations.
29. Ability to work with community agencies.
30. Mediation, facilitation, and staffing skills.
31. Ability to investigate out-of-zone, truancy and other attendance problems.
32. Use basic office software such as email, work order software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams in performance of duties.
33. Monitor the area of supervision to ensure with compliance with the policies and guidelines of the State Board of Education, AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the local school system.
34. Participate in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
35. Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
36. Report absences and take leaves in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
37. Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
