Technical Business Analyst

We are seeking a Technical Business Analyst to serve as the critical bridge between business stakeholders and data modeling teams supporting a large-scale enterprise data platform initiative. This role is embedded onsite to enable active, ongoing collaboration with business stakeholders, gathering and translating their requirements into clear, technical specifications that data modelers can execute against within a modern Lakehouse environment.

The ideal candidate is a technically fluent BA who is comfortable working hands-on with SQL and dbt, understands modern data modeling concepts, and can confidently facilitate conversations across both business and technical audiences. This is not a traditional business analyst role — it requires someone who can speak the language of data engineering and modeling while remaining grounded in business process and stakeholder needs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Requirements Gathering: Partner directly with business stakeholders onsite to understand business processes, data needs, reporting requirements, and analytical use cases across multiple product domains.
• Translation to Technical Specifications: Translate business requirements into clear, structured technical specifications, source-to-target mappings, and modeling requirements that data modelers can execute against.
• Data Analysis: Analyze source system data and structures, working alongside domain experts to understand relationships, entities, and business rules across a large landscape of source tables.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the connective tissue between business stakeholders, data modelers, and platform teams, ensuring alignment on definitions, priorities, and deliverables.
• Data Modeling Support: Leverage working knowledge of dbt and SQL to validate transformations, review models, and ensure the delivered data products meet business requirements.
• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of business requirements, data definitions, business rules, source-to-target mappings, and modeling specifications.
• Quality & Validation: Support data validation and quality efforts, partnering with modelers to confirm that gold-layer data products accurately reflect business needs.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Technical Analyst supporting data or analytics initiatives.
• Hands-on proficiency with SQL for data analysis, validation, and requirements definition.
• Working knowledge of dbt (data build tool) and the ability to understand and interpret data transformations.
• Strong understanding of modern data modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling and medallion/Lakehouse architecture (bronze, silver, gold layers).
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and source-to-target mappings.
• Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively across both business and technical audiences.
• Comfortable working onsite and driving active, in-person collaboration with business stakeholders.
• Highly organized with strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within a Databricks and Snowflake Lakehouse environment.
• Familiarity with Unity Catalog, data governance, metadata management, and data lineage concepts.
• Experience supporting data platform build-outs or medallion architecture initiatives.
• Prior experience with project controls, field management, or construction/engineering domain data (or similar complex operational domains).
• Experience with ERP or enterprise operational systems and integrating their data into analytics platforms.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Experience with data quality frameworks and validation practices.
