About the Role
A construction company in Stamford, CT, is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Specialist to join its accounting team. This individual will be responsible for processing vendor and subcontractor invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring timely payments. The ideal candidate has previous accounts payable experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities

• Process and review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and proper approval.
  
  
• Assign appropriate general ledger and job cost codes to invoices.
  
  
• Match invoices to purchase orders, contracts, and supporting documentation as needed.
  
  
• Verify invoice details and resolve discrepancies with vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  
  
• Prepare and process payments, including checks, ACH transfers, and wire payments.
  
  
• Reconcile vendor statements and follow up on outstanding invoices.
  
  
• Maintain accurate accounts payable records and ensure proper documentation.
  
  
• Assist with month-end closing activities, including AP reconciliations and accruals.
  
  
• Track invoices and payment schedules to ensure timely processing.
  
  
• Support project managers and the accounting team with job cost reporting and other AP-related requests.
  
  
• Assist with maintaining compliance documentation, including W-9s and certificates of insurance, as needed.
  
  

• Previous experience in accounts payable, preferably within the construction industry.
  
  
• Familiarity with job costing, subcontractor invoices, and purchase orders is a plus.
  
  
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  
  
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  
  
• Experience with accounting software or ERP systems.
  
  
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  
  
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
