Phlebotomist II Duration: 3+ Months Location: 900 W 3rd St, Suite 200, Farmville, VA 23901, USA Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Job Description Position Summary The Phlebotomist II assists with various laboratory duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement recommendations. The role focuses on specimen collection, processing, labeling, and handling in accordance with established procedures. Key Responsibilities Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles. Collect and store blood and other specimens, including urine and fecal samples, according to established procedures. Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients. Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify test orders for accuracy. Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens as required by test orders. Update patient information and maintain accurate specimen records. Ensure specimens are stored at the required temperatures and placed in appropriate collection containers for transport. Follow established protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination as required. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual departmental training sessions. Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as permitted by established procedures. Assist with troubleshooting and recommend workflow improvements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Valid state phlebotomy certification, where required.
