Position Description

Tellepsen is one of the largest general contractors in the Greater Houston Area, with more than 115 years of success in building the places where we live, work, play, learn, worship, and heal. As we expand upon that legacy and continue to grow, Tellepsen is looking for experienced Project Accountants to join our team.

Job Purpose

Project Accountant reviews project costs for accuracy, analyzes budget variances, and leads the collection and payment processes, working closely with the project accounting team and project managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS

• Enter and maintain project budgets, phase codes, schedule of values, budget re-alignments.
• Assist Project Manager with monthly cost projections, cost tracking, and accurate fee reporting.
• Create monthly owner pay applications for Project Manager review, including organizing support documents and reports.
• Approve or reject Subcontracts, PO's, Work Orders and Change Orders.
• Work with Risk Management as needed on vendor contract agreements.
• Manage subcontractor pay application process in software (GCPay).
• Follow up on vendor Schedule of Values submission and approval.
• Check all documents and pay applications for payment.
• Answer all subcontractor inquiries.
• Review SL Compliance regularly & send notices to vendors. Escalate issues to Project Manager when necessary.
• Prepare and release payments to Subcontractor upon funding, including lien releases.
• Manage process when lien notices are received and/or liens are filed.
• Manage Certified Payroll compliance when required (LCP Tracker).
• Prepare analysis of accounts and assist with audit inquiries.
• Organize and maintain digital project files through designated software tools and hard copies as needed for project team.
• Ensure field paperwork is properly scanned and saved.
• Collaborate with operations, estimating, and other teams to streamline processes and reporting.
• Follow through with Subcontractor Prequalification process for contracts over $25,000.
• Complete Subcontractor Approval Form for every Subcontract and for PO's over $100,000.
• Verify Exhibit C 2nd tier subcontractors and suppliers over $10,000 monthly for all projects.

• Communications - Strong verbal and written communication skills. Timely, transparent, direct, and specific. Able to consult with large groups and interact with customers, employees, and others on a one-on-one basis. Natural inclination towards client interaction.
• Persuasive and Tenacious - Must be bright, have a very strong work ethic, persistent and committed. Not fazed by obstacles or initial negative responses. Results-oriented, driven to succeed, reputation for getting things accomplished.
• Passion - Love for construction, specifically project management.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

• Some experience in accounting, preferably project-specific
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• CPA certification a plus
• Proficient in the use of technology software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Outlook, GC Pay, LCP Tracker, Procore, Docusign, construction-specific ERP systems, etc.)
• Good understanding of project-specific accounting functions and principles
• Knowledge of or ability to learn Vista Viewpoint and pVault preferred
• Knowledge of financial data analytics
