Site Safety and Health Officer

Position Overview Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a large federal client located at the project site. Responsible for on‑site safety and health management as outlined in the project specifications. Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of the site‑specific safety plan/Accident Prevention Plan (APP). Prepare Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work. Conduct safety indoctrination for all site workers and visitors. Ensure company employees and subcontractor personnel comply with the APP. Ensure required training and competent persons are available for each work activity. Ensure proper PPE is in use. Perform daily site safety inspections and document findings. Coordinate with Corps of Engineers personnel related to safety issues. Perform site accident investigations, complete accident reporting. Participate in preparatory and initial QC meetings related to safety review. Participate in Tool Box safety meetings and ensure subcontractors conduct safety meetings, providing documentation as required. Maintain safety deficiency log and track deficiencies. Meet requirements of EM385. Qualifications 30‑Hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Class. Current First Aid and CPR Training/AED. Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience supervising or managing general construction or safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and developing controls. 24 hours of documented formal or online safety and health related coursework completed in the past three years, applicable to the work on the contract. Demonstrated training in PPE selection and use, hazard communication, excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, confined space, and health hazard recognition. Physical Requirements Ability to remain stationary or standing for prolonged periods, alternated between the two. Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Ability to wear PPE while working in production areas, including safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, earplugs, hard hats, and protective clothing. Ability to communicate with others verbally, by phone, or via computer. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions. Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level. Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel. Work Location Construction sites (Domestic travel required).
