Director of Construction – Utility-Scale Solar & BESS

Washington, DC | Office-based hybrid (4 days in office, 1 remote)

$180,000 – $200,000 base + higher consideration for standout candidates

Travel up to 25% across Virginia and the mid-Atlantic

A growing renewable energy IPP is seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead a portfolio of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects. This is a senior leadership role for someone who has owned large-scale construction delivery, led teams, and driven projects through pre-construction, execution, and closeout.

We’re looking for a strong construction leader with a background in utility-scale solar or BESS, ideally at Director level or above. A Construction Project Management background is highly valued, along with the ability to manage contractors, vendors, budgets, schedules, and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

What you’ll do

• Lead construction strategy and execution across multiple utility-scale solar and storage projects.
• Manage and develop project teams, including PMs, superintendents, and subcontractors.
• Oversee contractors, A&E partners, commissioning agents, and equipment suppliers.
• Drive contract administration, cost control, forecasting, and schedule performance.
• Strengthen supply chain and vendor relationships.
• Support best-in-class processes, leadership, and operational improvement.

What we’re looking for

• 8+ years of experience in construction project management or development.
• Direct experience in utility-scale solar PV, BESS, or large-scale energy construction.
• Relevant degree required unless you bring equivalent senior leadership experience.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent contract administration and project execution capability.
• PMP or similar certification preferred.
