Position Summary

The PACU Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to patients recovering from elective cosmetic surgery. This role is responsible for supporting each patient’s comfort, safety, and readiness for discharge following their procedure, while working closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and the surgical team to ensure a seamless recovery experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Post-Anesthesia Recovery and Patient Care

• Provide direct patient care during the immediate post-anesthesia recovery period.

• Admit patients to recovery, receive hand-off from anesthesia, and monitor the patient’s condition throughout recovery.

• Assess and monitor vital signs, dressings, IVs, drains, and overall recovery needs.

• Evaluate patient readiness for discharge and provide recovery instructions.

Patient Experience and Communication

• Ease patient anxiety, provide reassurance, and respect each patient’s dignity and privacy.

• Support communication with patients’ families in a professional and compassionate manner.

Clinical Collaboration, Safety, and Quality

• Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs, and surgical staff to ensure seamless care.

• Respond to urgent situations, including initiating and maintaining CPR when necessary.

• Maintain readiness of the recovery area, including equipment and supplies.

• Participate in Quality Management and Performance Improvement programs.

Documentation and Professional Development

• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and physician directions.

• Engage in continuing education and attend center meetings to maintain competency.

Qualifications

Required

• Current Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license.

• Current CPR and ACLS certification.

• Strong assessment skills and the ability to respond effectively in emergent situations.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered approach.

Preferred

• Prior PACU or ICU nursing experience strongly preferred.

• Ambulatory surgery experience is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have formal direct reports. The PACU Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Director of Clinical and Peri-Anesthesia Operations and collaborates closely with surgeons, CRNAs, and other members of the surgical team.
