Physician Educator III

Overview A Physician Educator (Professional Billing Coding and Documentation Educator) provides training and education on proper documentation and coding practices, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards. They play a vital role in healthcare settings by educating providers and clinicians, reviewing coding accuracy, and staying updated on evolving guidelines. Responsibilities Conduct training sessions for physicians, staff, and other providers on coding and clinical documentation guidelines. Perform coding quality reviews, analyze findings, and provide feedback to improve accuracy and compliance. Keep up to date with the latest coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices. Analyze medical records to ensure accurate and complete documentation for billing purposes. Communicate complex coding and billing information to diverse audiences. Collaborate with physicians, coders, billers, and other healthcare professionals, including those in the SHC Office of Compliance and Privacy. Provide education to new providers and clinicians during onboarding. Provide in‑clinic support to staff and physicians to ensure compliant coding, documentation, and use of Epic EMR. Deliver specialty‑specific training on documentation of services and appropriate coding of level of service, diagnoses, and procedures in Epic. Perform requested clinical coding reviews and ensure accuracy of medical coding and documentation. Create and publish a monthly Coding Corner Newsletter. Develop and deliver training materials on risk adjustment coding and documentation best practices. Assist with the implementation of emerging coding and compliance laws and regulations and privacy policies. Perform other departmental duties as assigned, including participation in organization projects. Education and Experience High school equivalency or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum 4 years of work experience in a healthcare setting with demonstrated knowledge of regulatory billing and coding guidelines, and risk adjustment guidelines. Preferred 5 years of experience with multi‑specialty physician coding within an EMR. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD‑10 codes and rules. Ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex problems. Ability to perform research regarding complex coding and regulatory guidelines. Team‑player and leadership abilities. Effective oral presentation and written report skills. Organizational and prioritization skills; ability to meet deadlines independently. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to the functional responsibility. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships. Licenses & Certifications Certified Professional Medical Auditor (AAPC‑CPMA) Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Travel and Working Conditions 10% travel may be required. Compensation Base pay generally starts at $44.13 – $57.36 per hour.
