Cash Applications Specialist

Our client is seeking an experienced Cash Applications Specialist to join their accounting team in NW Houston. The ideal candidate will have strong cash application experience, excellent attention to detail, and advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs. This role will be responsible for accurately applying customer payments, reconciling accounts, and researching payment discrepancies.

Responsibilities:

• Apply daily customer payments to the appropriate accounts and invoices
• Process ACH, wire, check, and other customer payment transactions
• Research and resolve unapplied cash and payment discrepancies
• Reconcile customer accounts and payment activity
• Maintain accurate cash application records and documentation
• Research unidentified payments and work with internal teams to determine proper application
• Assist with account reconciliations and month-end close activities
• Prepare and analyze cash application reports
• Utilize Excel to organize, analyze, and reconcile payment data
• Communicate with internal teams and customers regarding payment issues
• Maintain accurate records and ensure timely processing of transactions
• Perform other accounting duties as needed

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of Cash Applications or Accounts Receivable experience
• Strong understanding of cash application and payment processing
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
• Experience with Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs required
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to research and resolve discrepancies independently
• Strong communication skills
• Experience working with high-volume transactions preferred
