The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution Waymart is seeking an energetic and highly motivated person with experience in the safe operation of an institution utility plant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the safe and efficient operation of the facility utility plant and related systems.

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor boiler systems during routine and emergency conditions
• System Maintenance: Perform inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs to maintain proper equipment function
• Water Testing: Conduct boiler water chemistry tests and document results and supply levels
• Housekeeping Duties: Maintain clean and orderly work areas and complete daily inventories
• Inmate Oversight: Supervise inmate workers, monitor movement, and uphold safety and security procedures
• Communication Tasks: Report daily concerns to supervisors and complete required paperwork and documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
• Work hours are 11:00PM to 7:00AM, with rotating days off.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  
  
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
