GRAPHIC DESIGNER

HOURS: Minimum of 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week

BARGAINING UNIT: SEIU/Pay Grade F = $23.3869

LOCATION: Main Library

JOB SUMMARY: This position develops creative for various projects and resources, delivering high-quality, compelling visual communications that inspire, inform, or captivate the target audience on time and within budget. Must strive to enhance the Library brand, further its mission and core values, helping to carry out the vision and goals of the marketing department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Associate’s degree in graphic design, digital design, fine arts, or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience:

3-5 years verifiable experience required in one or more specialized areas such as graphic design or visual communications. Must possess a strong knowledge of design across multiple channels and a range of industry standard software. Portfolio of work required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

1. Translating internal “client” needs and branding strategies into fresh and effective designs that convey messages effectively and in an aesthetically pleasing manner with its target audience.
2. Effectively taking designs from strategy to execution for assigned projects.
3. Skillfully illustrating concepts to articulate and pitch design concepts to supervisor, stakeholders, colleagues, and others, describing rough layout of art and copy, font size, size and style.
4. Effectively utilizing CPL brand strategy and ensure organizational standards are met.
5. Employing project management skills to handle multiple projects and manage timely completion of work in a fast-paced environment.
6. Partnering with members of the Marketing & Communications department in the development and execution of various integrated marketing campaigns.
7. Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to guide them through the design process, from concept to execution.

Performing other related duties as assigned

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

1. Possess and maintain an extensive knowledge of visual communication and design principles across multiple channels.
2. Knowledge of offset and digital print production; digital photography, digital printing; advertising across multiple mediums; and familiarity with press/publicity/promotion communication.
3. Knowledge of personal computer, digital photography, video production, editing techniques and software.
4. Strong proficiency in industry standard:

• Graphic design programs including, but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite - InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, Bridge and/or Acrobat.
• Video editing software including, but not limited to Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and/or DaVinci Resolve is a plus.
• Knowledge of Adobe After Effects and HTML/CSS is a plus.

1. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office or similar software is required. Relevant business equipment including the use of basic computer programs and systems.
2. Proficiency in operating wide or large format printers, offset or digital print production equipment, or other graphics related equipment.
3. Proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure that written materials prepared and reviewed are complete, succinct, and free of errors.
4. Ability to write copy, edit and proofread.
5. Use mathematics to solve problems.
6. Experience in public library or public-sector is preferred.
