Research Specialist II (Small Ruminant)

Research Specialist II (Small Ruminant) Responsibilities Conduct daily observation of research animals, including health monitoring, body condition scoring, weighing, and measurements. Ensure compliance with animal care and use standards through continuous oversight and hands‑on labor. Support faculty and staff with routine animal care, breeding preparation, experimental setup, and annual production program activities. Collect biological samples, record experimental measurements, conduct analyses/tests, compile research data, and support projections. Coordinate with other farm enterprises to maintain operational alignment across research and livestock units. Participate in institutional events, committees, and outreach activities. Perform other duties as assigned to support broader college and research center operations. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Sciences, or Veterinary Medicine. Six (6) years of related experience in animal research, including sample collection (blood and tissue), research experiments with farm animals and/or slaughterhouses, and scientific writing (abstracts, manuscripts). Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Sciences, or Animal Production. Solid understanding of animal husbandry practices. Research experience with ruminants (sheep, goats, or cattle). Experience writing manuscripts and scientific abstracts. Other Requirements Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert heavy force. Willingness to work beyond normal business hours and/or on weekends.
