Maintenance Superintendent

Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department. This role coordinates routine and emergency maintenance activities, manages maintenance personnel, ensures compliance with regulatory safety standards, and maintains operational readiness of equipment and systems. Key Responsibilities Coordinate, schedule, and oversee day-to-day preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency repairs. Supervise mechanical construction and installation work carried out by maintenance personnel. Manage and direct all assigned maintenance personnel, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety standards. Operate and oversee the use of welding equipment, cranes, manlifts, forklifts, and other heavy construction equipment. Maintain training documentation and manage the Maintenance Department's training syllabus. Remain proficient in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe permit writing practices. Understand and apply general procedures related to discharge control and containment, including during terminal expansion and modification projects. Maintain valid welding certification and OSHA 30‑hour safety certification. Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager. Serve as acting Maintenance Manager during absences. Review, approve, and maintain accurate employee timesheets, scheduling, and time‑off requests within Workday. Exercise authority to hire, discipline, and terminate employees, or to provide recommendations for such actions. The primary duty of this role is the performance of executive, administrative, office and/or non‑manual work that directly relates to the management or general business operations of IMTT. Qualifications & Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 5 years prior supervisory experience in the petrochemical industry preferred. Valid driver’s license. TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) required for terminal access. Valid welding certification. OSHA 30‑hour safety certification. Skills and Abilities Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to understand written and verbal communication in English. Ability to perform in a fast‑paced, multi‑faceted workload and make decisions in a variable environment. Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments. Hours of Work This is an exempt, salaried position. The role requires flexibility to support a 24/7 operation and will oversee day and night shift rotations, including weekends and holidays, as business needs require. Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice. Physical and Environmental Demand The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop as necessary, and may need to climb, bend, kneel, and perform moderate lifting. The job may require working in confined spaces, overwater, and without fear of heights. The employee must be able to wear and use a respirator.
