Assistant Director of Public Works - Operations & FacilitiesThe Department of Public Works of the City of College Park, Maryland, is seeking an experienced and collaborative Assistant Director of Operations & Facilities to help lead critical services that support our residents every day. This leadership role oversees operations for Solid Waste, Streets, and Facilities Maintenance, and assists with departmental administration, budgeting, project management, emergency response, and staff development.Key ResponsibilitiesThe ideal candidate will:Assist in managing Public Works operations involving solid waste, streets, and facilities maintenance.Supervise and support operational staff, including performance management, training, and workforce development.Assist with budget preparation, payroll review, invoice approvals, and departmental planning.Support emergency operations, including snow removal planning and response activitiesHelp ensure compliance with applicable regulations, operational standards, and departmental objectives.Oversee facility improvement projects, renovations, contracts, and bid processes.Respond to resident inquiries, provide exceptional customer service, and represent the department at public meetings, community events, and City committee meetings.Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Four to five years of progressively responsible experience in public works, facilities operations, municipal services, or a related field.Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Experience supervising staff, managing operational programs, and evaluating employee performance.Knowledge of public works administration, including budgeting, payroll processing, project management, and contract oversight.Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage residents, address community concerns, and represent the department at public meetings and City committees.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, coordinate departmental activities, and make sound decisions during emergencies and severe weather events.Experience with facilities maintenance, solid waste operations, street maintenance, capital improvement projects, or related municipal operations is highly desirableWhy Join the City of College Park?Opportunity to make a visible impact on a growing and engaged community.Leadership role with broad operational responsibility.Diverse work that combines strategic planning, project management, team leadership, and public service.Collaborative municipal environment focused on operational excellence and resident satisfaction.Compensation & BenefitsThis is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary range of $120,000-$130,000, depending on qualifications.
