Job Description
Therapist, Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County
Wichita, KS 67211
ABOUT US:
- Children’s Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County (CACSC) is dedicated to promoting the safety, healing, and emotional well-being of children and families impacted by abuse and other traumatic experiences. We bring together public, private, and community partners in a collaborative, child-focused environment to ensure families receive compassionate, coordinated care
- We deeply value our clinicians and are committed to maintaining strong work-life balance, providing meaningful clinical support, and fostering a connected, supportive team culture
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Therapist provides trauma-informed counseling services to children and adolescents who have experienced abuse or other traumatic events, as well as their supportive caregivers. This role focuses on helping children and families feel safe, reduce trauma-related symptoms, build healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and support long-term healing. Services may include individual therapy with the child, caregiver sessions, and family therapy. Treatment is delivered using evidence-based, strengths-based approaches tailored to each child and family. Our therapists maintain a thoughtfully managed, low client load to support high-quality care and reduce burnout
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Provide trauma-informed assessments and therapy to children and their non-offending caregivers and family members
- Develop individualized, strengths-based treatment plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes
- Provide opportunity to deliver psychoeducation to caregivers to enhance their ability to nurture, protect, and support their child’s healing
- Collaborate closely with Child Family Advocates and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation of services provided
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to contribute clinical insight and promote best outcomes for children and families
- Maintain awareness of community resources and make appropriate referrals when needed
- Participate in community education and outreach as a trusted resource on child safety and trauma recovery
- Attend ongoing trainings and supervision to maintain licensure and meet accreditation standards
- Fulfill mandatory reporting responsibilities as required by Kansas law
- Support the mission, values, and collaborative culture of the CAC
Occasionally, therapists may be asked to participate in court proceedings related to a client’s case
WHY YOU’LL LOVE WORKING HERE:
Collaborative Team Environment
- Our CAC model emphasizes partnership and communication. You’ll work alongside advocates, medical professionals, and community partners who share the same mission of supporting children and families
Work-Life Balance & Flexibility
- We prioritize clinician well-being by maintaining a manageable caseload and offering schedule flexibility. We support clinicians in creating a schedule that works well for their families and personal needs. Evening hours are not required but may be available for those who prefer them
- There is no overtime — schedules are flexed as needed
Low Client Load
- We intentionally maintain a reduced caseload so clinicians can provide thoughtful, high-quality care while minimizing burnout
Clinical Support & Professional Growth
- We provide strong clinical supervision and financial support for professional growth. This includes financial assistance for supervision hours and additional certifications
- Our agency coordinates obtaining certification in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training and covers the costs associated with that training
- Opportunity to participate in or co-facilitate PSB (Problematic Sexual Behavior) groups, based on interest and training
- We also coordinate ongoing professional development opportunities for our therapists — clinicians are supported by leadership in identifying, arranging, and accessing trainings rather than navigating that process alone
Positive Workplace Culture
- We believe meaningful work should be sustainable and supported. Our team enjoys agency activities, staff appreciation events, morale-building gatherings, and opportunities to connect outside of daily responsibilities
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Flexible scheduling with support to create a schedule that fits your needs
- Evening hours are not required but may be available if preferred
- No overtime; schedules are flexed as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Licensure:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a closely related human services field
- Licensed through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB)
- Maintain all required licensure and continuing education
Skills & Experience:
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Interest in working with children and adolescents ages 3 through 18
- Ability to identify and create a comfortable age range based on clinician preference and expertise
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Job Type: Full-time
- Base Pay: $65,000 - $80,000 per year
- We offer an incentive plan that allows clinicians to increase their salary based on billable hours. The incentive plan begins after 90 days of employment
We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are an organization that values diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including minorities and persons with disabilities.
