Vice President of Operations – Construction

Location: Charlotte/Gastonia, NC
Salary: $225,000–$250,000 + Performance Bonus
Travel: Regular regional and multi-state travel required

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Vice President of Operations to lead companywide operations for a growing infrastructure and field-services organization. This executive will oversee P&L performance, project execution, field operations, workforce productivity, customer delivery, safety, quality, and operational growth.

The ideal candidate has senior operations leadership experience within telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, fiber, electrical construction, utilities, critical power, data centers, or specialty contracting and has successfully managed large, multi-state field operations.

This is a hands-on executive role requiring regular interaction with project teams, field operations, customers, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead operations across multiple locations, customers, business units, and projects.
• Own operational P&L, including revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, cash flow, and profitability.
• Oversee projects from planning and staffing through execution, closeout, billing, and collections.
• Monitor backlog, WIP, job costs, project margins, labor productivity, change orders, and working capital.
• Identify underperforming projects and implement corrective action to improve profitability and delivery.
• Improve scheduling, forecasting, resource planning, and operational capacity.
• Lead project managers, construction managers, field leaders, crews, and subcontractors.
• Develop executive-level relationships with wireless carriers, tower companies, utilities, and infrastructure customers.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for major customer and project-delivery issues.
• Ensure compliance with safety, OSHA, quality, customer, and industry requirements.
• Support expansion into new markets, service lines, and potential acquisitions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive operations leadership within telecom, wireless infrastructure, fiber, electrical construction, utilities, critical power, data centers, or specialty contracting.
• Significant P&L responsibility within a construction, infrastructure, or field-services organization.
• Experience leading multi-state operations and large field-based teams.
• Strong knowledge of backlog, WIP, job costing, project margins, billing, collections, and labor productivity.
• Proven success improving profitability, operational performance, and accountability.
• Experience managing senior-level customer relationships.
• Strong financial, analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to travel regularly to project sites and customer locations.

Preferred Experience

• Telecom or wireless infrastructure construction leadership.
• Major carrier programs involving Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, or similar customers.
• Wireless site builds, tower modifications, tower-owner programs, or raw-land development.
• Fiber OSP/ISP, critical power, electrical, utility, or data center construction.
• Privately held or private-equity-backed organizations.
• Acquisition integration, geographic expansion, or new service-line launches.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Operations, Finance, or a related field preferred. Significant executive operations experience may substitute for formal education.
