About the Role

We are conducting a confidential search for an experienced 2nd Shift Converting & Finishing Supervisor with an established folding carton packaging manufacturer in Wisconsin.

This is a hands-on production leadership opportunity overseeing die cutting, finishing, and shipping operations, with additional support for printing and sheeting departments as needed.

The ideal candidate understands the demands of a fast-paced manufacturing environment, knows how to keep equipment and people productive, and has the leadership skills to drive safety, quality, accountability, and on-time production.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable spending time on the production floor, solving problems, developing employees, and making sure each shift is positioned for success.

What You'll Do

• Lead daily operations across die cutting, folder-gluing, finishing, and shipping departments during 2nd shift and portions of 3rd shift.

• Supervise production employees, coordinate staffing, and ensure work is completed according to production schedules and customer requirements.

• Monitor production performance, equipment utilization, downtime, scrap, quality, and overall departmental efficiency.

• Work closely with machine operators and production teams to address equipment issues, production bottlenecks, and workflow challenges.

• Oversee first-article approvals and quality checks on die cutting and folder-gluing equipment.

• Ensure proper machine setups, changeovers, production specifications, and quality standards are followed.

• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive manufacturing environment.

• Enforce company safety procedures, operating standards, and housekeeping expectations.

• Coordinate with maintenance, production planning, printing, quality, and other departments to keep jobs moving through the plant.

• Manage attendance, staffing requirements, timekeeping approvals, and employee performance.

• Provide coaching, training, performance feedback, and corrective action when necessary.

• Communicate shift performance, production issues, equipment concerns, and priorities through detailed shift reports and leadership updates.

• Participate in production meetings, performance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Help identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve throughput, minimize downtime, and strengthen employee accountability.

• Support effective communication and employee relations in a union manufacturing environment.

What We're Looking For

• 3–5 years of supervisory or production leadership experience in printing, folding carton, paperboard converting, or a closely related manufacturing environment.

• Working knowledge of die cutting, folding and gluing, finishing, and converting operations.

• General understanding of sheet-fed offset printing processes and how printed sheets move through converting and finishing.

• Ability to lead production employees across multiple departments and maintain accountability on an off-shift schedule.

• Experience managing production priorities, equipment issues, staffing, and quality concerns.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with operators, maintenance teams, management, and other departments.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment where schedules and customer demands can change.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.

• Willingness to work a flexible afternoon/evening schedule and provide support across shifts as needed.

Preferred Background

• Previous supervisory experience in a folding carton manufacturing facility.

• Experience supervising employees in a union manufacturing environment.

• Strong familiarity with paperboard converting, die cutting, and folder-gluer production.

• Experience with sheet-fed offset lithographic printing operations.

• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, waste reduction, production efficiency, and continuous improvement.

• Experience with ERP/MIS manufacturing systems and electronic production reporting.

• Familiarity with shipping, warehousing, and material handling operations.

• Experience training, coaching, and developing machine operators and production employees.

Equipment / Technical Experience

Candidates with knowledge of the following processes and equipment will receive strong consideration:

• Die Cutting: Sheet-fed die cutting, stripping, blanking, registration, tooling, and quality inspections.

• Folder-Gluers: Folding carton finishing, glue application, setups, changeovers, and finished-carton quality.

• Sheet-Fed Offset Printing: General knowledge of lithographic printing, color and registration standards, and printed-sheet quality.

• Paperboard Materials: Folding carton substrates, paperboard handling, printed sheets, and finished packaging products.

• Production Systems: ERP/MIS software, production scheduling, downtime tracking, and shift reporting.

• Shipping and Material Handling: Finished goods movement, inventory accuracy, warehouse coordination, and shipping requirements.

Direct operating experience on every piece of equipment is not required, but candidates should have enough technical understanding to lead operators, recognize production issues, and coordinate effective solutions.
