About the Job ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Classroom Environment, Student Engagement and Commitment to Learning: Assist the teacher with the implementation of academic and vocational instruction for students individually or in small groups; help develop and present learning materials and instructional activities; supervise students in classroom activities; provide differentiated instructional support in integrated settings in accordance with state and federal regulations and Oak Hill School philosophies and practices. Create and maintain a supportive learning environment; model appropriate behaviors to help students develop social skills. Safely assist students with transportation to and from school as needed. Supporting planning for Active Learning: Assist in planning instructional content aligned with standards, building on students’ prior knowledge and ensuring appropriate levels of challenge for all students. Support planning of instruction to cognitively engage students and apply behavioral strategies as necessary. Assist in selecting appropriate instructional materials and using assessment strategies when needed. Supports Instruction for Active Learning: Participate in ongoing observation and assessment; record instructional and behavioral data; help develop techniques to reinforce learning; document progress toward goals; assist in developing instructional materials and operating instructional media and equipment. Modify materials and implement instructional and behavior management strategies under supervision of the Special Education teacher. Assist in implementing a specialized curriculum and behavior interventions; organize instructional materials including technology and augmentative devices. Assist students with self-care techniques and personal care needs; participate in responsibilities related to physical and medical needs, lifting and transferring students as needed. Professional Responsibilities and Paraprofessional – Instruction Leadership: Maintain relevant endorsements and pursue ongoing professional development; contribute to a positive school climate working with colleagues, students, and families. Foster a positive learning environment where students take intellectual risks and are encouraged to challenge ideas. Encourage students to set high goals and take responsibility for their learning; support independent use of proactive strategies and accountability for actions. Promote increased student engagement and reduced behavioral incidents; support students’ independence and active engagement in learning. Culture of support and accountability: Collaborate with colleagues to gather and evaluate data to adapt planning and instruction for professional growth and student learning; contribute to the moral and ethical practice of the school community.
