Associate General Counsel, Banking Payments and Embedded Finance About the Company Industry-shaping financial technology (FinTech) company Industry Financial Services Type Privately Held About the Role The Company is in search of an Associate General Counsel to spearhead legal strategies in banking, payments, and embedded finance. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading clients and internal stakeholders through the entire new product development lifecycle, participating in client-facing meetings, and negotiating complex partner agreements and vendor contracts. This role also involves drafting a variety of legal documents, working closely with cross-functional teams, and providing expert advice on BaaS program structuring and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree, be admitted to a U.S. state bar in good standing, and have over 15 years of legal experience in financial services and/or payments technology, with a strong preference for those with an MBA or equivalent business experience. Applicants for the Associate General Counsel position at the company should have a proven track record of building and improving scalable legal processes and tools, as well as experience in overseeing and managing outside counsel. The role requires the ability to mentor and develop legal team members, align legal strategy with business growth, and draft complex agreements under tight timelines. The candidate must be adept at leading negotiations with fintech partners and institutional clients and providing clear, actionable guidance on complex legal concepts. In-house experience at a bank, fintech company, card network, or payments company is essential, and a background in financial services and/or payments technology is a must.
