Landry/French Construction is growing. We are looking for a field Safety Coordinator to support our Florida offices in St. Petersburg and Melbourne. The Safety Coordinator supports the Company's safety program by promoting a culture of safety, conducting jobsite inspections, assisting with safety training, and helping ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Working under the direction of the Safety Director, this position partners with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to support safe work practices and reduce risk across assigned projects.
The Safety Coordinator serves as a visible safety resource in the field and helps foster a proactive safety culture focused on injury prevention, hazard recognition, employee engagement, and continuous improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety Program Support
- Assist in implementing and supporting the Company's safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Promote a culture of safety and contribute to achieving company safety goals and objectives.
- Support implementation of project-specific Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and safety initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to project teams regarding safety requirements, procedures, and best practices.
- Serve as a safety resource for employees, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
Training and Education
- Conduct project-specific safety orientations for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Assist with onboarding and safety training for new field personnel.
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate Toolbox Talks and other safety-related training programs.
- Participate in company safety meetings, project meetings, and training sessions.
- Maintain required safety certifications and participate in continuing education opportunities.
Jobsite Inspections and Audits
- Conduct routine jobsite safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and verify compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor daily construction activities for compliance with OSHA standards and company safety expectations.
- Document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
- Communicate audit results, trends, and recommendations to the Safety Director and project leadership.
- Assist with tracking and monitoring corrective actions to resolution.
Incident Management and Risk Mitigation
- Assist with incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
- Support documentation and reporting requirements related to incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events.
- Participate in development and implementation of preventive measures and corrective action plans.
- Monitor jobsite conditions and proactively identify opportunities to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
Safety Documentation and Compliance
- Collect, review, and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), safety documentation, and project safety records.
- Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility and compliance requirements are maintained.
- Assist with maintaining regulatory and company-required safety documentation.
- Support project teams in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, incidents, and compliance activities.
General Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with employees, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Maintain professionalism when addressing safety concerns and resolving conflicts.
- Support company safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Travel between project sites as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of safety, construction, field operations, or related experience preferred.
- Experience in a commercial construction environment preferred.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, training, or incident investigations preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS
- OSHA 30 Certification required.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
- Strong understanding of hazard recognition, incident prevention, and risk management principles.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with employees, subcontractors, and project teams.
- Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive matters.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed primarily on active construction sites with occasional office-based responsibilities.
- Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, temperature extremes, dust, noise, heavy equipment, and active construction operations.
- Frequent interaction with employees, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and project stakeholders.
- Work may involve responding to changing project conditions and addressing safety concerns in real time.
- Travel between multiple project sites may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to frequently walk active construction sites and navigate uneven terrain.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and temporary access structures as required.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, kneel, and conduct inspections for extended periods.
- Ability to access various areas of active construction projects to perform safety observations and audits.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry safety equipment, training materials, and project documentation weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safely access construction work areas.
- Sufficient visual acuity and hearing to identify hazards and monitor jobsite activities.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Regular travel to assigned project sites is required.
- Travel between multiple active project locations may be necessary based on business and operational needs.
- Occasional attendance at training programs, safety conferences, and professional development events may be required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable driving record are required.
