About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Orthopedics Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active Illinois RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Post-operative surgical care and general medical-surgical care experience Description: This position is for a registered nurse on an orthopedic unit. The unit has a total of 43 beds, all private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 during 12-hour day shifts and 1:5-6 during 12-hour night shifts. There are required certifications, including BLS. Patients may present with a wide variety of diagnoses, including post-operative orthopedic cases and trauma cases with fractures. Ideal candidates will have 1-2 years of clinical experience in a similar setting. A primary charge RN is assigned each shift, and a house supervisor is available 24/7. Patient care technicians are available on the unit, with a ratio of 1:7-8. The unit uses CPAP and heated high flow as needed for respiratory treatments. Telemetry monitors are in place, and nurses are responsible for troubleshooting but not required to read their own strips. Travel staff will work 12-hour shifts and are expected to meet weekend requirements, which include every other weekend. Floating may occur on occasion to other medical-surgical floors. There is no call or standby requirement. Scrub color is flexible, allowing for adult professional appearance, and all tattoos and piercings must be covered. Two days of unit-specific orientation will be provided.
