CNC Machinist

Join a small, precision-focused manufacturing team that designs and builds fixtures and CNC chucks for machining applications in a job shop environment. As a CNC Machinist, you perform multiple daily setups on a variety of CNC mills and lathes, work with 3+2 axis machinery, and handle rotational machining for prototype and precision parts. You take ownership of machine setup, tool changes, offsets, running the machines, and making on-machine edits while collaborating closely with programming and other departments.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, program sheets, and work instructions to produce precision components.
• Perform a variety of turning, milling, drilling, boring, and related operations to close and interrelated tolerances on CNC mills and lathes.
• Complete multiple daily setups and changeovers, including tooling selection, tool changes, and setting offsets on CNC equipment.
• Run 12 CNC machines per day and be willing to assist in other departments, including occasional work in the manual machining area.
• Make G and M code edits directly at Fanuc or Siemens controls to optimize part quality and machine performance.
• Monitor machine operations, troubleshoot issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
• Perform inspection and gauging operations using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify conformance to specifications.
• Measure workpieces throughout the process and document results to ensure adherence to quality standards and GD&T requirements.
• Clean machines, tooling, and parts regularly to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work area.
• Use hand and power tools and appropriate tooling to support machining and setup activities.
• Collaborate with team members in a machine shop environment and be willing to run multiple machines when needed.
• Support continuous improvement by providing feedback on setups, tooling, and machining processes.
• Occasionally assist with manual machining operations and other shop tasks as required.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience as a CNC Machinist responsible for setups and tool changes on mills or lathes.
• Proven ability to perform CNC mill setup, including tool changes, offsets, and running production on vertical mills.
• Experience running CNC lathes and comfort working with rotational machining rather than stationary tool and die work.
• Strong blueprint reading skills and ability to interpret detailed work instructions and program sheets.
• Ability to enter Fanuc or Siemens controllers and perform G and M code edits at the machine.
• Hands-on experience with CNC machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, and boring to tight tolerances.
• Proficiency using precision measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, and gauges for in-process and final inspection.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to inspection and machining processes.
• Ability to set up, perform tool changes, adjust offsets, and run 12 machines independently in a job shop environment.
• Comfort working with various CNC control platforms, including Fanuc, and troubleshooting basic machine or process issues.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively in a machine shop setting.
• Capability to work in a team environment and support multiple machines when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience holding tolerances to a few thousandths of an inch in a precision machining environment.
• Experience with multiple-axis machining, including 3+2 axis machines.
• Familiarity with Haas CNC machines and their controls.
• Experience with Mastercam, including making program edits.
• Exposure to Mastercam programming and G and M code programming.
• Experience with Vericut programming or verification of CNC programs.
• Ability to perform basic inspection and documentation of results to meet quality standards.
• Comfort working in a small machine shop environment with a variety of machine brands and configurations.
• Willingness to learn additional machines, such as mills or lathes, if currently experienced in only one.
• Ability to move between CNC and manual machining departments as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small manufacturing company that builds components for machining operations in a clean, climate-controlled machine shop. You work with an array of CNC machinery, including 3+2 axis mills and lathes, primarily using Fanuc controls and potentially Haas equipment, alongside manual machines when needed. The environment emphasizes precision, prototype, and rotational machining, with frequent setups and smaller batch sizes typical of a job shop. You use hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and inspection equipment daily. The position follows a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a half-day on Saturday ending around 11:30 a.m., and encourages teamwork, flexibility, and running multiple machines when possible.

Pay and Benefits
