Electrician (RWQCP)

Job Overview The City of Palo Alto seeks a skilled, journeyman‑level Electrician for the Regional Water Quality Control Plant (RWQCP). This role will support critical infrastructure that protects public health and the environment by performing complex electrical work in a mission‑driven operation. Responsibilities Install, service, and maintain electrical systems such as SCADA, instrumentation, motor control centers, machine controls, chemical feed systems, and other related equipment. Install conduit, transformers, conductors, switchboards, and equipment for extensions or alterations in electrical installations for power and motors. Service, repair, and maintain lighting, power systems, pumps, motors, and other electrical apparatus. Test, locate, and repair malfunctions in electrical circuits. Maintain solid‑state and electric‑mechanical components such as RTUs, instrumentation components, conduit, boxes, cables, lighting, and power systems. Install, maintain, and repair electric control panels, MCCs, PLCs, VFDs, soft starters, motors, loop controllers, electric valve controllers/positioners, hazardous chemical feed and monitoring systems, flow‑metering systems, SCADA computers, network hardware, and video surveillance systems. Qualifications Experience troubleshooting electrical circuits. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment. Previous experience working in a wastewater treatment facility. Completion of twelfth grade (or equivalent). Completion of an accredited electrician apprentice program or an associate degree in electronics or equivalent experience. Special Requirements Possession of a valid California Driver's License. May be required to work on standby and/or overtime in emergency situations. When assigned to WQCP: ability to work under wastewater plant conditions and safely around hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, electricity and water; must pass an annual physical and be able to use a self‑contained breathing apparatus while maintaining a face seal. When assigned to traffic signal maintenance and repair: possession of an IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Electrician Certificate or approved equivalent is desirable.
