Job Summary:

As a Cook at BlueBonnet Rehab at Ennis, you will be responsible for cooking adequate and nutritious meals as specified by menus. You will work closely with our dietary team to ensure that our residents receive high-quality food that meets their dietary needs.

Responsibilities:

• Handle and prepare food according to menus and recipes

• Meet meal schedules and avoid food waste

• Care for equipment and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment

• Prepare food that is palatable and appetizing in appearance

• Work cooperatively with other staff and departments

• Follow all rules regarding hazardous products

Requirements:

• Ability to follow oral and written directions

• Preferred previous experience in an institutional setting

• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygienic methods

• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more and walk, turn, pivot, and bend as needed to perform duties

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the rules that govern hazardous waste and products and Blood Borne Pathogens

• Must have/be willing to get a Food Handler's License

• Ability to work cooperatively with others

• Initiative and judgment in setting up meals, utilizing leftovers

• Ability to follow standard recipes and make independent decisions

Job Knowledge:

• Cooking a variety of foods in large quantities

• Hazards of improper food handling

• Use and care of food service equipment

• Familiarity with seasoning and cooking time required

• Cooking characteristics of various cuts of meat

• Estimating quantities of food required

Work Performed:

• Prepare foodstuffs for cooking, lifting food products and trays of food to and from the steam table and other surfaces as desired

• Prepare food according to recipes

• Plan cooking schedules for readiness at mealtime

• Cook food

• Prepare and portion servings

Open Shift: 12pm-8pm Shift 4 days on 2 days off
