Cannabis Retail Shift Lead – Jersey City, NJ

MMD Jersey City is seeking an experienced, dependable Shift Lead to support daily store operations and help deliver an exceptional customer experience. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can guide the team, maintain compliance, and keep the store operating efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Jersey City, NJ
Pay: $21-$23 and hour + Tips
Schedule: Must have flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

• Lead the sales floor and support employees throughout the shift
• Provide professional, knowledgeable, and welcoming customer service
• Assign duties and ensure opening, closing, and daily operating procedures are completed
• Support customer intake, point-of-sale transactions, online orders, and order fulfillment
• Verify customer identification and ensure all transactions comply with New Jersey cannabis regulations
• Monitor employee performance, attendance, breaks, and floor coverage
• Coach employees and communicate performance or conduct concerns to the General Manager
• Respond professionally to customer concerns and resolve routine issues
• Maintain accurate cash-handling practices and assist with register counts and reconciliations
• Support inventory receiving, product organization, restocking, and cycle counts
• Help maintain store cleanliness, organization, safety, and security
• Protect confidential employee, customer, and company information
• Immediately report compliance, safety, security, cash, or inventory concerns to management
• Complete required logs, checklists, and shift reports
• Perform other duties assigned by the General Manager or company leadership

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old
• At least one year of retail, hospitality, or customer-service experience
• Previous leadership, key-holder, or supervisory experience preferred
• Cannabis retail experience and product knowledge preferred but not required
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
• Dependable, organized, and able to remain professional under pressure
• Comfortable coaching employees and enforcing company policies consistently
• Able to handle cash and complete basic calculations accurately
• Able to learn and use point-of-sale, inventory, and scheduling systems
• Must meet all New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission requirements applicable to the position
• Must be able to successfully complete any required background check, licensing, registration, or employee-badge process in accordance with applicable law

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Ability to work in a busy retail environment
