Drill Operator

Drill Operator Basic Purpose and Objective: Drill Operator operates drill machines for the manufacture of all types of fasteners. Responsibilities Operate up to two drill machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions. Start and operate machine to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required. Operate machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. Check parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, gauges and perform SPC. Recognize and remedy minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools; report discrepancies to department lead and/or supervisor for assistance. Identify, disassemble, and determine corrective action required to repair work or broken parts. Check tooling and rework as needed to keep machine running. Lay out parts for successive and continuous machining operations. Be able to troubleshoot cutters and fingers; tooling necessary for setup and operation. Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards by following blueprints or work instructions. Read blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, number, or parts to be checked. Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follow safety regulations. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications Read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings. Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
