Radiologist Position
This position is responsible for performing duties as a full-time staff Radiologist with responsibility for performing and interpreting general and special diagnostic radiologic procedures including Mammography, CT, MRI, and ultrasonography and act as lead interpreting Physician for the FDA approved mammography program at the Oyáte Health Center (OHC).
Essential Functions and Professional Behavior Expectations:
- Responsible for diagnosing and treating illness or injury through the use of medical imaging techniques.
- Recommends methods and procedures for coordination of radiological services with other medical activities and advises on the kind and quantity of personnel, supplies and equipment.
- Performs all the responsibilities of a radiologist including performing all non- fluoroscopic procedures; interprets all radiologic or other imaging examinations.
- Evaluate Patients' medical history to ensure tests will not cause harm; suggest alternative diagnostic techniques when necessary.
- Consults with providers concerning which radiologic examinations are necessary for accurate diagnosis based on the patient's physical condition, history, and symptomatology.
- Responsible for the evaluation and comprehensive interpretive reports of findings for general, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and mammography exams.
- Serves as consultant to clinicians in interpreting radiologic findings and assist in determining nature and extent of diagnosis through proper sequential application of various diagnostic modalities.
- Consults with providers concerning referrals of patients requiring highly specialized services to other hospitals.
- Prescribes x rays, for specific body areas to be taken by technologist.
- Administers contrast substances when necessary. Administer or maintain conscious sedation during and after procedures.
- Interpret images using computer-aided detection or diagnosis systems; analyze test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.
- Review or transmit images and information using picture archiving or communications systems.
- Records diagnosis and recommendations for inclusion in patient's record and forwards to attending physician when appropriate.
- Provide counseling to radiologic patients to explain the processes, risks, benefits, or alternative treatments; explain medical procedures or test results to patients or family members.
- Serve as an offsite teleradiologist for facilities that do not have on-site radiologists.
- Actively participates in clinic quality improvement activities.
- Participate in meetings and represent OHC as required.
- Utilization of EHR with accurate timely notes to ensure required documentation is entered for billing and referrals; collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examinations results.
- Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Privacy Act of 1974.

Requirements:
- Participates in Core Connections training and applies GPTLHB Core Connections concepts and practices in their work.
- Familiarity and/or experience working with American Indian populations and respect for and knowledge of traditional, cultural and spiritual practices of diverse American Indian communities, as well as an ability to work with other culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
- Possess the ability to resolve issues with other departments and coworkers without direct supervision.
- Able to exercise flexibility to alter plans/routines when situations require and continue to perform without projecting stress/frustration that would adversely affect the work environment.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and overnight or extended travel as necessary.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to community members, consumers and other employees of the organization.
- Proficiency with computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other Internet technologies.
- Valid driver's license must be kept current, and certificates, credentials or licenses must be kept current and consistent with regulations required by applicable federal, state and/or grant regulations.
Supervisory Controls:
The supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined goals or functions.
The employee usually has responsibility for independently planning, designing, and carrying out programs, projects, studies, or other work.
Results of the work are considered technically authoritative and are normally accepted without significant change. If the work should be reviewed, the review concerns such matters as fulfillment of program objectives, effect of advice and influence on the overall program, or the contribution to the advancement of technology. Recommendations for new projects and alteration of objectives usually are evaluated for such considerations as availability of funds and other resources, broad program goals, or established priorities.
Guidelines:
Guidelines include state and federal laws and regulations, OHC policies and procedures, OHC Medical Staff Bylaws, professional standards of medical practice, medical standing orders, and Centers or Medicare and Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation manual. These guidelines are not applicable to every situation encountered and require independent judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
Complexity/Scope of Work:
The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods that are applied to a broad range of activities or substantial depth of analysis, typically for an administrative or professional field. Decisions regarding what needs to be done include major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation and evaluation processes that result from such elements as continuing changes in program, technological developments, unknown phenomena, or conflicting requirements.

The work involves isolating and defining unknown conditions, resolving critical problems, or developing new theories.
The work product or service affects the work of other experts, the development of major aspects of administrative or scientific programs or missions, or the well-being of substantial numbers of people.
Contacts:
Contacts are typically with clinical providers, patients, employees, community resource agencies, patient family members, CDC, State Departments of Health, local Health Departments, Tribal Health programs, and the general public.
Contacts are primarily for obtaining, furnishing, exchanging and providing factual medical information.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
