Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Chemistry

The duties and responsibilities of the Supervisory Clinical Laboratory Scientist - Chemistry include:

• Providing oversight and operational management for the Chemistry section within the Pathology and Laboratory Service Line.
• Providing administrative and technical supervision and performing major duties above those at the Full Performance Level (FPL) that consist of significant scope, complexity, difficulty, and variety.
• Exercising a full range of supervisory responsibilities in planning, directing, and assessing work of subordinate staff.
• Recommending appointments, awards, advancement, and disciplinary actions.
• Planning and assigning work based on priorities, requirements of assignments, and abilities of employees; providing advice and counsel; and evaluating work of subordinates.
• Ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements.
• Establishing and monitoring the quality of pre-analytical, analytical, and postanalytical processes.
• Initiating corrective actions as needed as part of the overall laboratory quality management program.
• Planning and executing performance and quality improvement projects.
• Verifying orientation, training, and competency assessment of assigned staff and developing and updating technical policies and procedure manuals.
• Ensuring all staff and affiliate staff comply with accrediting and regulating bodies.
• Adjusting staffing levels or work procedures to accommodate resource allocation decisions made at the executive level.
• Managing document control, developing performance standards, position descriptions, and functional statements and being responsible for technical and administrative management of an assigned area including budget execution.
• Interacting with administrative and clinical onsite personnel and exercising significant independent decision-making authority.
• Maintaining effective interdisciplinary and interprofessional relations with other services to accomplish medical center goals.
• Implementing and monitoring quality management activities, including proficiency testing by an external source (e.g., CAP).
• Maintaining standard operating procedures for assigned specialties in accordance with standards directed by applicable accrediting agencies.
• Overseeing education of Medical Laboratory Technician, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Phlebotomy students within assigned area of the laboratory.
• Working off-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays as priorities demonstrate a need.
• Working as a team member to provide back-up support for timekeeping as needed for continuity of operations.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
