Head of Applied AI & Building Intelligence

S23 - Renewable Energy Role - Head of Machine Learning & Energy Systems Salary - $150,000 - $175,000 Location - Remote, North America About the Role An early-stage climate tech company is hiring a senior technical leader to own and scale the machine learning and energy intelligence layer of its platform. This role sits at the intersection of AI, building operations, and mechanical systems. You’ll be responsible for turning real-world building and energy data into production-grade models that drive measurable emissions reduction and operational impact. This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership, working closely with founders, engineers, and domain experts in a fast-moving environment where practical engineering judgment matters as much as ML expertise. Key Responsibilities Own the machine learning and data intelligence strategy across the platform Design, build, and deploy production ML models focused on energy usage, emissions, and building performance Work closely with building operations, mechanical, and energy experts to ensure models reflect real-world system behaviour Lead and mentor engineers, setting technical standards while staying hands-on Build and maintain end-to-end ML pipelines, from data ingestion through to monitoring in production Partner with product and engineering to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights Ensure solutions are scalable, explainable, and reliable in live customer environments What We’re Looking For Senior experience across machine learning, applied AI, or data engineering roles Strong Python background with proven experience deploying ML systems into production Experience working with time-series data, optimisation problems, or physical systems Solid understanding of building operations, mechanical engineering concepts, or energy systems Comfortable working with imperfect, real-world data Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP Ownership mindset, you build it, you own it Nice to Have Background in climate tech, energy optimisation, or smart buildings Exposure to HVAC systems, grid dynamics, or demand response Startup or scale-up experience Experience working closely with non-technical stakeholders What’s on Offer Competitive senior-level salary Meaningful equity High-impact role working directly with founders Real ownership over core technology decisions Remote-first role across North America Opportunity to build technology that drives real-world decarbonisation #J-18808-Ljbffr S:23 Recruitment
