Job Title Nuclear Security Officer Location St. Francisville, Louisiana, United States Workplace Flexibility Onsite Job Summary The nuclear security officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of a nuclear power plant or other nuclear facility. This includes monitoring access, conducting patrols, responding to alarms and incidents, and enforcing security protocols. The nuclear security officer plays a critical role in protecting the facility, its personnel, and the surrounding community from potential threats. Responsibilities Control entry processing of all individuals into protected and vital areas of the plant by verifying identity and authorization. Conduct personnel and vehicle searches as required by plant security requirements. Respond to intrusion alarms as directed or as a security officer on patrol. Deter attempts by unauthorized persons to gain entry into protected or vital areas of the plant. Make scheduled and unscheduled patrols of owner‑controlled, protected, and vital areas of the plant. Report all observed security and safety violations. Keep a record of patrols. Secure, protect, and assist at accidents, fires, and similar areas of the mishap until relieved. Perform as an armed escort for persons or vehicles as required by the Security Plan. Operate company vehicle(s). Conduct operational tests of intrusion detection and contraband detection equipment according to documented procedures. Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including nights, days, holidays, and weekends. Respond to emergencies and work in adverse weather conditions. Be prepared for sequestration events, which may require prolonged stay at the facility. Minimum Requirements Education High school diploma or GED. Experience Minimum age 21 years. Desired Qualifications Commercial, military, or law enforcement security experience. Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must meet NRC psychological testing regulations. Must satisfy all nuclear regulatory elements to obtain and maintain unescorted access. Have physical stamina for walking, climbing, etc., as required in NRC Regulations. Demonstrate ability to understand and effectively react to adverse situations with people and resolve them with tact, diplomacy, and courtesy. Certificates, Licenses, and Certifications Valid state driver’s license and meet company driving standards. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Comprehend and pass all tests in accordance with the Security Training and Qualification Plan. Maintain initial and annual weapons qualifications (safety, proficiency, and marksmanship). Additional Responsibilities The nuclear security officer may be required to work additional hours, at alternate locations, or perform additional duties related to storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime for such duties.
