This role owns the technical blueprint for environments that support fleet readiness monitoring, maintenance planning, logistics coordination, and operational decision-making.The architect will work directly with engineers, security architects, data scientists, and product owners to translate mission requirements into well-architected cloud solutions that are secure, resilient, compliant, and cost-effective.Unlike a purely advisory role, this position stays close to implementation. The ideal candidate can produce architecture and design documentation, prototype solutions, set standards for infrastructure as code, and guide engineering teams through delivery.SteerBridge applies proven patterns—well-architected design, hardened and STIG-aligned baselines, Medallion data architecture, and automated CI/CD to deliver platforms that meet DoD security and authorization expectations. The architect ensures these patterns are applied consistently across the environment.This is a hybrid position based in Vienna, VA.Key Responsibilities:Design secure, scalable AWS GovCloud architectures for aviation analytics and operational workloadsProduce architecture diagrams, design documents, and technical decision recordsDefine standards for networking, identity, compute, storage, and data servicesApply AWS Well-Architected principles across reliability, security, performance efficiency, and costEvaluate trade-offs and make technology selections aligned with mission and compliance needsSecurity and Compliance by Design:Embed least-privilege IAM, encryption, segmentation, and hardened baselines into every designPartner with security architects to align solutions with DoD and DISA frameworks and authorization requirementsDesign for auditability, logging, and continuous monitoring from the outsetImplementation Guidance:Set standards for infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelinesGuide and review engineering implementation to ensure fidelity to the designPrototype and validate new patterns and services before broad adoptionLead architecture and design reviewsCollaboration and Strategy:Translate mission and product requirements into technical roadmapsPartner with data teams to align platform architecture with Medallion data patternsAdvise stakeholders and subject matter experts on cloud strategy, modernization, and riskRequired Qualifications:U.S. Citizenship required6+ years of cloud experience, including 3+ years in an architecture or lead engineering roleDeep expertise designing AWS solutions across compute, networking, storage, and IAMStrong command of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and secure cloud design patternsExperience with infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation) and CI/CD at scaleStrong understanding of cloud security, identity, and network segmentationAbility to produce clear architecture documentation and present to technical and non-technical audiencesExperience leading delivery across multidisciplinary teamsPreferred Qualifications:Experience architecting in AWS GovCloud or other federal or regulated environmentsFamiliarity with DoD and DISA compliance, STIG hardening, and ATO and authorization processesExperience with data platform and Medallion architecture for analytics workloadsExperience with deploying containerized application workloads, hybrid networking and DNSAWS Professional-level certification such as Solutions Architect ProfessionalExperience supporting aviation, defense, logistics, or fleet management systemsBenefits:Health insuranceDental insuranceVision insuranceLife Insurance401(k) Retirement Plan with matchingPaid Time OffPaid Federal Holidays$165,000 - $180,000 a year Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.SteerBridge is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
