The team produces regulatory traffic signs, street signs, and special event signs in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements. If you have experience in sign fabrication, silk screening, computer graphics, or a related field, we would like to hear from you. The Sign Fabricator I role offers the opportunity to combine technical skills and creativity with work that helps people travel safely throughout Chesapeake. Responsibilities include: Designing, fabricating, installing, and repairing signs and other traffic control devices Preparing pavement markings Programming and setting up variable message signs, speed radar trailers, and speed radar signs Maintaining material inventories and preparing reports related to sign fabrication Planning work methods and completing assignments under general supervision The ideal Sign Fabricator I works well with a team, enjoys hands on projects, and brings attention to detail to every assignment. Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires high school diploma or GED / HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in drafting, computer graphics, or closely related fields. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience. SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards . Special skills or equipment certification may be required.
