Basic Function Under direction of the Director of Instructional Technology, the Media Services Coordinator provides customer service support for a wide variety of media services and computer-based multimedia services to faculty, staff, students, and external audiences who rent CLU facilities; delivers and retrieves all media equipment; coordinates media equipment maintenance and repair; develops and maintains procedures for scheduling, retrieval and inventory of all media and media equipment; and performs related duties as assigned. Representative Duties Coordinates all media equipment requests. E Delivers and retrieves all media equipment. E Trains and coordinates student workers. E Coordinates media equipment repairs. E Set-up of video equipment and stream lectures, concerts, and other special events. E Provides campus wide customer service support. E Supports computer-based multimedia presentations. E Duplicates audio and video materials and related instructional media following University, state and federal guidelines and laws. E Provides basic lighting and sound reinforcement for CLU events. E Maintains and supports smart classrooms. E Design, fabricate if needed, and install classroom presentation systems. Mount and install electric and manual projections screens, LCD Projectors, PA systems, amplifiers, etc. E Troubleshoots malfunctions in emergency situations and perform emergency repairs, in a high-pressure environment, at University locations such as classrooms, conference and seminar rooms. E Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electronic equipment, systems and components; schedule timely maintenance; establish and maintain records for parts inventory, repairs, and maintenance and upgrades of audio/video equipment; research and recommend equipment and system purchases. E Provide demonstrations and training on A/V equipment use to Events staff, student workers, and other CLU employees as assigned; in addition, trains media services staff on equipment repairs and replacement. E Troubleshoot, diagnose, isolate and repair all media equipment for classroom support, including more complex electronic equipment and systems including but not limited to multimedia systems, video/data projections systems, video recording/playback cameras, camcorders, monitors, white boards, Extron control systems, and other problematic equipment. E Administer Extron systems by installing, configuring, managing and updating software and firmware. E Provides weekend and special event media equipment support. E Maintains media equipment and Webcheckout inventory databases. E Develops and maintains media services procedure manual. E Maintains media services equipment and performs preventive maintenance. E Assists in improving and upgrading instructional facilities. E Creates and maintains an operational calendar of media service events. E Monitors new and emerging technologies for integration into classroom use. E Attends workshops and conferences, communicates with vendors, and stays current in the field. Ability to learn new technology. E At the request of a supervisor, performs a variety of unscheduled duties normally performed by a Media Services Technician. E = Essential Duties Knowledge Of Operation and maintenance of computers, standard audio/visual equipment (LCD projector, audio mixer, audio speakers, video switchers, Blu-ray, digital still and video cameras) and related auxiliary equipment. Advanced A/V technology and best practices. Innovative classroom technology and media such as capturing, podcasting. Equipment maintenance, alignment, and calibration for digital(HD) video studios and suites for the production and post-production environment. (Preferred) Live sound reinforcement and PA Systems A/V control systems and interfaces. Instructional technology equipment usage including audio, video, computer display, signal distribution, classroom control systems. Instructional technology equipment specifications and their relationship to applications, teaching methodologies, multimedia systems and faculty preferences. Extron Systems (preferred) Software systems including Windows and MAC OS. Application software including word processing, spreadsheets and database management, web authoring tools, multimedia software development tools, digital video editing. Video and audio production. Oral and written communication skills. Principles and practices of administration, supervision and training. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability To Plan, organize and direct the media services area Provide support to users of audio/visual equipment and electronic classrooms, especially faculty and other instructional staff members and campus guest using facilities as arranged by Campus Events Coordinating projects involving various personnel, such as technicians, architects, engineers, facility maintenance, faculty and administrators in a University setting. Research, analyze and recommend new audio/visual software and hardware Communicate technical issues to users in a clear and effective manner. Read technical manuals. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Operate a computer and assigned office equipment. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and time lines. Work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives. Make decisions, be organized, and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Define realistic, specific goals and objectives and to prioritize them. Work with staff to provide high-quality customer services. Identify problems and work with staff to recommend and implement solutions. Work independently with little direction. Work weekend and evening hours as required. Plan and organize work. Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned student staff. Work with basic hand tools, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and use scissor lifts, electronics soldering, including cables, assemblies, and circuits. Work well under pressure to effectively diagnose and troubleshoot problems in a short period of time. Exercise initiative and good judgment; Maintain positive approach despite conflicting deadlines, shifting priorities and simultaneous work demands. Organize, categorize and prioritize workload effectively and efficiently, under minimal supervision. Train and be trained by co-workers; Be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to take initiative to resolve problems and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and constituents of varying levels of expertise, use appropriate interpersonal communication skills in a team-oriented environment; Represent ITS and its programs to others in a constructive, professional and courteous manner. Minimum Qualifications Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor's degree preferred or two years' of experience working at an audio/visual staging services company, school or college or other non-profit organization such as a hospital, museum, or any other company installing and operating media equipment as a media services technician or A/V technician Preferred Qualifications Two years' experience handling media services needs of associations, trade shows, corporate and information-technology events Two years' practical experience in the operation and deployment of media services equipment Licenses and Other Requirements Valid California driver's license. Physical Abilities Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling heavy objects; climbing ladders to install equipment; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read a variety of materials; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of equipment and tools; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching. Working Environment Work weekend, evening and some holiday hours as required; indoor and outdoor environment; driving a vehicle to conduct work; travel to off campus location; noise from production equipment. HAZARDS Working at heights; chemicals, fumes or gases from solvents and lubricants; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
