Assistant Cook

SCS is seeking an Assistant Cook to work at the Older Adult Center which provides essential services to older adults in a community-based setting, including offering nutritious, freshly prepared meals served daily to older adults. Responsibilities Assist with preparing, cooking, and serving congregate meals in compliance with NYC Aging and DOHMH standards, ensuring meals are served on schedule. Receive, store, rotate, and help manage food inventory and kitchen supplies. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen, including equipment, utensils, storage areas, and floors. Assist with training kitchen volunteers and maintaining daily food temperature logs. Attend required training and meetings. Provide coverage for Head Cook. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent life experience. Minimum two years of food preparation experience, preferably with group meal service. Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate or ability to obtain one. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and older adults. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more. Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
