Description: The unit has 56 beds that are a combination of private and semi-private rooms. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5 during day shifts and 1:5-6 during night shifts. Common patient diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health & addictions. RNs are not required to titrate drips; common titratable and set rate drips include Heparin and Lasix. There is a charge nurse on each shift who does not take an assignment. Patient Care Technicians assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living with a ratio of 1:8-10. The unit utilizes Bipap/Cpap for sleep apnea, administers inhalers, and conducts suctioning. Telemetry is monitored remotely; RNs can view strips on their devices or computers using Phillips monitors. Scheduling is flexible with 3 twelve-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7:30 PM. Weekend requirements include every other weekend for both days and nights. Floating to other acute care general medical areas such as nephrology, neuro, ortho, or oncology may be required. Professional scrubs of any color are permitted; visible tattoos and piercings, except for earrings, are not allowed. Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 2 to 3 shifts. The facility operates within an acute care setting.
