POSITION SUMMARY

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons using the swimming pool. This position monitors activities in and around the water, enforces facility rules, responds to emergencies, and provides excellent customer service while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. The Lifeguard must meet all applicable New York State certification and training requirements. The Lifeguard will coordinate onsite pool activities with the Lead Residential Coordinator to ensure safe usage of the pool. This is a part-time position. Hours are flexible and may include some evening hours and/or weekend hours.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of all swimmers and guests
• Enforce pool rules and regulations to prevent accidents
• Promote a positive and enjoyable experience for all community members
• Respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, including administering first aid and CPR as necessary
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions, addressing concerns, and assisting residents and guests in a friendly and professional manner
• Perform routine pool maintenance tasks, including checking water quality, ensuring cleanliness of the pool area and locker room, and communicating effectively with other lifeguards, reporting any issues to the operations manager/program director and maintenance staff to foster a collaborative and supportive team environment
• Comply with workplace safety and OSHA regulations
• Must be present on-site and be able to move throughout the facility to address pool-related matters and meet with residents, staff, vendors and visitors.
• Ability to lift and/or move large or heavy objects in excess of 30 pounds as needed
• Must be comfortable with exposure to varying environmental climates and circumstances

Health, Safety, & Compliance

• Maintain a safe pool environment in a clean, organized, and safe manner
• Conduct frequent inspections of pool areas and locker rooms
• Actively participate in health and safety practices and accident prevention
• Provide CPR and First Aid as necessary
• OSHA compliance
• Ensure all accidents are reported to supervisors and properly documented. Investigate near-miss incidents to determine root cause to promote accident prevention
• Use all required safety devices and personal protective equipment

Salary: $25 Hourly

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma recommended

Experience:

• Prior experience working as a pool lifeguard
• Experience working with young people, seniors, and individuals with disabilities preferred

Skills

• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups
• Planning and organizational skills and attention to detail
• Computer literacy
• Current lifeguard certification from a recognized training program
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications
• Strong swimming skills and endurance
• Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations
• Physical ability to perform rescue maneuvers

• Participates in training relevant to job role
• Maintains good working relationships with residents, the public and other agency representatives

• Perform other duties as assigned
