Status:  Full-Time; Exempt 
Location:  Los Angeles, CA  
Hours of Operation:  Monday–Friday; some evenings and weekends required 
Salary Range: $75,000-$88,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)

What We Do:  

Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer LifeCraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 2,000 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 150 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.

Role Overview: 

The Family Engagement Manager works closely with the Director of Education Services to oversee the development and implementation of family engagement strategy and provide direct support to field and office staff on parent communication and community outreach. The Manager ensures site staff have access to quality materials, culturally relevant resources, and consistent guidance to deliver equitable family engagement across all Woodcraft Rangers programs. 

The Family Engagement Manager ensures tools and initiatives meet the needs of families and partners across 200+ program locations spanning two counties and are completed by established target dates. The Manager serves as a Trainer of Trainers, building site staff capacity to deliver consistent, culturally responsive family engagement independently at each site. This is a hybrid position requiring regular presence in the office and field, with flexibility to work remotely when the schedule permits. 

Responsibilities: 

• Under the guidance of the Director of Education Services, ensure that families across all sites — regardless of location, language, or context — receive equitable access to engagement opportunities and resources 

• Serve as Trainer of Trainers for the Woodcraft Rangers family engagement model, coordinating with Learning & Development (L&D) to ensure training and professional development is streamlined, aligned, and builds site staff capacity to deliver consistent, high-quality engagement independently 

• Serve as department lead to train and guide staff through community mapping processes to identify and respond to the specific needs of the families and communities they serve 

• Serve as a resource to field leaders navigating district-specific expectations around family communication and involvement 

• In collaboration with Marketing and Communications team, design and scale communication strategies — in collaboration with Strategy and Programs departments — to support consistent, timely, and culturally responsive outreach that ensures all families can meaningfully participate across all sites 

• In collaboration with Marketing and Communications team, develop flexible templates, toolkits, and resources that site staff can adapt to meet the specific needs of their school community to help facilitate high-quality parent and guardian interactions — including regular parent meetings, presentations, and various types of conversations with families 

• Highlight models of high-quality family engagement and best practices to elevate programming across the region and agency 

• Work with the Impact Department to develop observation rubrics, survey questions, data collection tools, and reporting measures that assess the quality of family engagement practices and communicate impact to stakeholders including parents, funders, and school partners 

• Provide the Director of Education Services with updates and recommendations based on site visits and interactions with program staff and administrators 

• Track and report family engagement metrics such as parent meeting attendance and participation in signature events, identifying areas for improvement and adjusting strategies and materials as needed 

• In collaboration with Marketing and Communications team, maintain a centralized resource library of materials, guides, and tools accessible to all site staff 

• Develop, coordinate, and integrate intentional family engagement elements into agency-wide Woodcraft Rangers Signature Events 

• Build and maintain relationships with community partners who can provide supplemental resources and programming for families 

• Schedule office hours and site visits as requested by supervisors 

• Comply with all applicable safety requirements and emergency protocols, including maintaining up-to-date training and certifications 

• Participate in staff development training as required 

• Perform other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications/Skills:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Community Development, Public Health, or a related field; equivalent lived and professional experience considered. 

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a school or educational setting involving family engagement, community outreach, parent education, or a related role in an urban, youth-serving, or community-based setting. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to groups, facilitate workshops, and create accessible materials for diverse audiences. 

• Ability to build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with families, staff, and community partners from diverse backgrounds. 

• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, sites, and deadlines simultaneously. 

• Preferred: Bilingual or multilingual ability; experience in afterschool or out-of-school time (OST) programs; familiarity with school district systems, Title I, and/or Community Schools Framework; knowledge of community resources in the Los Angeles area.

• Frequent standing and walking required, including during site visits and parent meetings. 

• Regular travel across the greater Los Angeles area to Woodcraft Rangers program sites is required, using a personal vehicle or public transportation. A valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.  

• Regular use of hands for tasks such as operating a computer, handling materials, and preparing resources for family events and presentations.  

• Must be able to occasionally lift/move up to 40 pounds.
