Part Time Relief Veterinarians

Do you love animals AND people? Well then the Humane Society of Harford County is looking for you! We employ talented and dedicated animal welfare professionals in all areas of the shelter, and we are looking to expand our team! We are an open-admission, nonprofit, progressive animal shelter and take in approximately 3,000-3,500 animals a year of all species, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, farm animals, and even fish! We are especially interested in candidates that are multi-lingual, particularly if you are fluent in Spanish and/or American Sign Language! Requirements All candidates must be 18 or older, pass a pre-employment background check, possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, have an excellent work ethic, be able to work effectively under high stress, and handle an emotionally and physically demanding work environment. Benefits Full‑time employees are offered employer‑paid health, vision, and dental benefits (60% cover at start, 80% after one year, and 100% after two years), a SIMPLE retirement plan with a 3% match after two years of service, full employer paid short- and long-term disability, life and AD&D benefits, as well as paid vacation and 40 paid sick and safe leave hours, and seven paid holidays. Part‑time employees receive 40 hours of paid sick and safe leave. Our 19,000‑square‑foot shelter facility boasts a large multi‑room veterinary suite with new equipment and a well‑stocked pharmacy. Compassionate care of our animals is our top priority and we do our best to provide the resources needed to be successful. This position reports to the Shelter Operations Director. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating animals of various species, stabilizing ill and injured animals, helping oversee day‑to‑day herd health, and/or performing spay/neuter surgeries for shelter pets. The veterinary department includes four‑five full‑time experienced shelter vet techs to assist you. Knowledge of shelter medicine protocols, particularly high‑volume spay/neuter, is strongly preferred. Must be licensed to practice in Maryland, or willing to become licensed in the state.
