ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR

Position Summary The Admissions Counselor on the National Recruitment Team is to provide services and answer questions for prospective students, their families, and school counselors; second, to serve as an effective member of the recruitment team to encourage a wide variety of academically qualified, intellectually curious, and actively involved first‑year and transfer students to attend the University of Georgia. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications None specified. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Considerable knowledge of admissions policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge of recruitment, orientation planning, and counseling. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and to communicate ideas effectively in writing and orally before large groups. Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and prepare reports. Physical Demands Lift 35 lbs., drive, stand or sit for long periods of time. Serve as a full‑time reader (or as designated) in the application file reading process, assisting with holistic review of undergraduate applications and supporting scholarship awards. Take reasonable and appropriate notes; read designated volume to aid the office in meeting deadlines for release of decisions, including reviewing high school transcripts. Manage travel territory as assigned under the leadership of the Associate Director for Access & Inclusion and Senior Associate Director for Marketing and Recruitment, in consultation with the Director of Admission. Work with travel team leaders to use data to determine target schools within the assigned territory and appropriate outreach methods, providing quality customer service to schools, counselors, students, and parents throughout the college search, application and selection process, including virtual and/or in‑person college fairs, panels, high‑school visits and campus visits. Manage and assist in specific programs and/or initiatives. Develop, plan and direct projects of special significance to encourage academically qualified, intellectually curious, and actively involved first‑year and transfer students to attend the University of Georgia. Support Access & Inclusion initiatives such as early engagement and college readiness programming for middle‑school students. Oversee daily workflow related to projects and their development. Serve as primary counselor and facilitate campus visit experiences on a scheduled basis or as needed, virtually and in person. Provide quality customer service and demonstrate knowledge of the UGA admissions process, presenting professionally at all times. Conduct dynamic presentations and effectively answer questions about admission and application processes; provide admission counseling and information sessions with visiting students and families in person, group settings, virtually, by phone, correspondence and e‑mail. Serve as leaders and resources for newer and less experienced staff in this area, along with other duties as assigned.
