Description

We are seeking a Surgical Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for an inpatient general surgery coverage opportunity in Potsdam, New York. The role includes surgical first assist responsibilities, inpatient rounding, consults, and post-operative care. The provider will support general surgery, OB/GYN, and orthopedic patients while collaborating with physicians and care teams.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide surgical first assist in operating room
• Assist with suturing, wound closure, and hemostasis
• Position patients and maintain sterile field
• Apply clamps, sutures, and surgical adhesives
• Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation
• Perform inpatient rounding and progress notes
• Manage consults, admissions, and discharges
• Enter and manage orders in EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons and care teams
• Provide weekend and optional call coverage

Qualifications

• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Active New York license
• Minimum 2 years recent surgical experience
• Surgical first assist experience required
• BLS, ACLS, ATLS certifications
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Strong inpatient clinical skills

Working Hours

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (10-hour shifts)
• Scheduled + optional call coverage
• Weekend call: Fri 5 PM – Mon 7 AM (optional)
• Weeknight call: 5 PM – 7 AM (optional)
• Rotating summer coverage with potential extension
