Medical Oncologist/Hematologist

Job Summary Hematology Oncology Associates of CNY (HOACNY), voted one of Central New York’s Best Places to Work, is looking for a full‑time Medical Oncologist/Hematologist to join our professional team. HOACNY provides cancer care services, Monday through Friday, day hours at three convenient locations in East Syracuse, Syracuse and Auburn. Responsibilities Diagnosis and Evaluation: ordering comprehensive tests such as blood tests, bone marrow testing and imaging scans to pinpoint diseases; analyzing biopsies of bone marrow and lymph nodes to understand disease progression and cell structures; staging and explaining the exact type and stage of a disease and breaking down complex diagnoses clearly for patients. Treatment Planning and Therapy Management: creating personalized treatment plans and guidelines of care, developing a mix of targeted medications and systemic treatments; administering procedures, overseeing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusions, radiotherapy and oral agents; monitoring patient reactions and adjusting medications to mitigate the physical toll of aggressive cancer treatments. Patient Care and Multidisciplinary Collaboration: monitoring and managing cancers, malignant and benign hematological disorders; coordinating care with radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists and nursing teams to deliver a comprehensive approach to patient wellness; conducting or reviewing clinical research to apply the latest advancements and gene therapies to patients’ treatment plans. Professional Role: maintaining hospital affiliation and privileges; participating on hospital board or committees; maintaining professional affiliations and enhancing professional growth; maintaining required practice RVU requirements and CME for certification; keeping accurate medical records and complying with all regulatory requirements; contributing to the growth and reputation of the practice through patient care excellence; participating in tumor board discussions, collaborating with other providers to evaluate complex cases and optimize treatment strategies; maintaining strict confidentiality; performing related work as required; attending required physician meetings, tumor boards and participating in HOACNY activities as requested. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; knowledge of the purposes, organization and policies of the community’s health systems sufficient to interact with other health care providers; knowledge of the policies and procedures of a medical practice sufficient to provide effective patient care; knowledge of the electronic medical record, computer programs and applications; skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision‑making to achieve organizational objectives; skill in analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action; skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians, leadership and employees; understanding of financial and business parameters as well as legal issues surrounding the functions of a group practice. MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine and board‑certified in Hematology and Oncology. Actively licensed to practice medicine in the United States and in good standing with the medical board(s) in states issuing licensure to practice medicine.
