Assistant Controller

We are looking for an onsite Assistant Controller to work for a leading San Diego biotech company. Responsibilities Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and consolidated financial reporting. Assist with SEC reporting activities, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, supporting schedules, disclosures, and audit documentation. Support revenue recognition activities under ASC 606, including licensing agreements, royalty arrangements, milestone payments, deferred revenue, and customer contracts. Research and document technical accounting matters under US GAAP, including revenue recognition, equity transactions, leases, stock compensation, debt, and other complex accounting topics. Partner with cross‑functional teams including Finance, Legal, Commercial, Operations, Supply Chain, and external auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. Support SOX compliance efforts by maintaining internal controls, preparing documentation, assisting with control testing, and identifying process improvement opportunities. Assist with global consolidations, intercompany transactions, foreign currency accounting, and international reporting activities. Drive accounting process improvements, enhance financial systems and workflows, and help develop scalable processes to support company growth. Assist with ERP enhancements, accounting policies, and mentoring junior accounting staff as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred. 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public company experience. Prior experience with a Big 5 or national public accounting firm is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, technical accounting, and the month‑end close process. Experience preparing or supporting SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q and 10-K. Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition, licensing agreements, royalty accounting, and complex commercial contracts is highly preferred. Familiarity with SOX compliance, internal controls, and partnering with external auditors. Experience supporting global consolidations, intercompany accounting, foreign currency transactions, and multinational operations is a plus. Prior experience within biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries is preferred. Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
