School Psychologist for

Emporia Unified School District

Location: Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative Purpose The School Psychologist assists in the recognition, prevention, and treatment of educational student issues. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the School Psychologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the Cooperative and school district. Responsible to Executive Director of Special Services Payment rate As Established by the Emporia Board of Education Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited college/university. Current Kansas State Licensure appropriate to the assignment on file in the Central Office. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office. Essential Functions Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, and evaluating comprehensive services/programs. Assist in the recognition, prevention, and treatment of educational issues which adversely affects student learning. Assist in determining the eligibility of students for special education services, and assist in determining that an appropriate and thorough evaluation has been completed. Participate as a team member of the comprehensive intervention system. Assist in the development of student's individual education plans. Assist teachers in the development and implementation of appropriate classroom strategies, accommodations and modifications. Consult with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students; provide appropriate support as necessary. Assist in monitoring student progress and make informed timely educational decisions relative to individual students. Appropriately respond to the mental health needs of the students and staff. Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students and staff. Refer students to appropriate community and social agencies; maintain a collaborate relationship with those agencies. Assist in the awareness and compliance of ADA and Section 504 requirements. Assist in the implementation of staff development and support of state/local standards. Apply research-based strategies and best practices for providing services to students. Assist in child find activities as appropriate. Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the needs of children. Adhere to service guidelines as defined by the Kansas State Plan for Special Education, State Rules and Regulations governing Special Education, and district policies. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching. Requires work indoors and outdoors year-round. May require work in noisy and crowded environments. Requires operation of all equipment as appropriate to the task. Requires extensive use of technology. Requires some travel. General Responsibilities Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools. Participate in the ongoing development/revision, implementation, and monitoring/assessment of curriculum as outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Business. Select and supervise licensed and classified personnel through processes outlined by the Associate Superintendent of Personnel. Effectively utilize the expertise of other district professionals and/or outside consultants to support instruction/student achievement. Supervise/provide for the general welfare of students at school and at school activities. Provide for effective programs and processes to support student conduct, attendance and academic progress. Develop and maintain documentation relative to program requirements/funding, etc.(i.e. Grants and Awards) Appropriately delegate duties for effective utilization of staff while assuming responsibility for program. Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to: Acceptable use of technology Sexual and racial harassment Child abuse reporting Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations. Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity. Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; accurate recordkeeping and timely submission of required reports; participate in building/district level committee tasks; contribute to SIT/IEP activities, etc. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws. Act as a liaison to Mental Health and other social service agencies. Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces. Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills. Respond to change in a productive manner. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
