The Opportunity

BCI is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer, Principal in Charge to join its Cincinnati, Ohio team.

This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity for someone who understands civil design but is ready to own much more than the technical work.

The Principal in Charge will bring together engineering judgment, project management, team leadership, and client partnership , overseeing civil projects while helping develop the people responsible for delivering them.

You'll lead a team of approximately six individual contributors and provide the technical and project leadership necessary to keep work on track. While you should understand AutoCAD and Civil 3D and be comfortable reviewing engineering plans, this position does not require you to spend your day working in CAD.

What You'll Do

• Lead civil engineering projects and provide Principal-in-Charge oversight
• Manage and mentor approximately six engineering professionals
• Provide senior technical direction throughout project planning, design, and execution
• Review civil engineering plans, drawings, and technical deliverables
• Manage project priorities, schedules, scope, and execution
• Work directly with clients and project stakeholders
• Guide design decisions and help teams solve complex project challenges
• Review and interpret work produced using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Help maintain high standards for technical quality and project delivery
• Participate in project meetings, industry conferences, and client meetings
• Travel approximately 25% as project needs require, including occasional overnight travel
• Support the continued growth of BCI's civil engineering presence and capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required

• Approximately 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, with consideration given to exceptional candidates with 8+ years
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Ability to obtain Ohio PE licensure through reciprocity if not currently licensed in Ohio
• Strong civil design foundation
• Demonstrated project management experience
• Experience managing, developing, or mentoring engineering professionals
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
• Ability to review and understand CAD/Civil 3D plans without needing to be a daily production user
• Strong communication and client-facing skills
• Ability to travel as business and project needs require

Preferred

• Active Ohio PE license
• Water resources engineering experience
• Experience overseeing complex civil/site development projects
• Experience functioning as a Principal in Charge, senior project leader, or equivalent engineering leader

Compensation

Base Salary: $165,000-$175,000+

BCI is open around compensation depending on experience and overall fit.

An annual bonus tied to company performance has also been part of the compensation structure, and there may be additional growth opportunities as the successful candidate progresses within the organization.
