Technical Editor I Location: 1 DNA Way, South San Francisco, CA 94080 Contract Duration: 12 Months — Potential Extension or Full-Time Conversion Pay Rate: $47.23–$62.94/hour (W2) Benefits: Weekly Pay, Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance Position Overview We are seeking a Technical Editor I to provide critical support for nonclinical document management, editing, quality control, and workflow coordination within a regulated drug development environment. The contractor will support the lifecycle management of nonclinical documents used across various regulatory submission types. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams. The Technical Editor will work closely with Submission Managers, authors, subject matter experts, publishing teams, Development Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, and other stakeholders to ensure documents are accurate, complete, compliant, and delivered according to established timelines and global regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities Document Management & Processing Develop familiarity with internal processes, tools, systems, and document management procedures. Transfer, organize, and manage documents across digital libraries, repositories, and folder structures. Accurately capture, verify, and apply metadata to documents and system records. Initiate and maintain document records within document management and tracking systems. Publish finalized documents and reports in accordance with established procedures. Ensure documents are properly organized, version-controlled, and readily accessible. Editing & Quality Control Perform detailed quality control (QC), proofreading, and verification of nonclinical documents to ensure submission readiness. Format, edit, and track documents such as: Nonclinical study reports GLP statements CRO reports IND/BLA summaries Pharmacology and toxicology documentation Apply established editorial standards, templates, formatting requirements, and document conventions. Review documents for accuracy, completeness, consistency, formatting, and overall quality. Research historical archives and internal resources to locate missing information or documentation. Identify discrepancies or missing content and work with appropriate stakeholders to resolve issues. Workflow & Project Coordination Enter and maintain accurate project and document information within tracking systems. Match documents and system data to broader project and submission plans. Develop and track timelines for document deliverables. Monitor document completion and follow up with authors and stakeholders as needed. Coordinate document hand-offs, review cycles, and approvals among authors, subject matter experts, publishing teams, and cross-functional stakeholders. Support Submission Managers and project teams with document tracking and workflow coordination. Identify issues that could affect document quality or submission timelines and work collaboratively to develop solutions. Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established deadlines. Internal Communications & Content Management Maintain internal team websites, portals, or collaboration spaces. Create new content and perform routine updates to ensure information remains accurate and current. Serve as an editorial resource and point of contact for documentation-related processes. Communicate document management procedures, standards, and requirements to team members and stakeholders. Collaborate effectively with teams across Development Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, and other functional areas. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in English, Science, Communications, Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, or a related field. Experience Minimum of 2 years of experience in scientific editing, technical writing, document management, or a related field. Experience supporting documentation within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical research, or regulated environment is highly desirable. Knowledge of the drug development process and regulatory submissions is required. Required Skills Strong knowledge of document management and quality control practices. Preferred Skills Experience with regulatory or nonclinical documentation, including IND/BLA submissions. Familiarity with document management and regulatory publishing systems. Experience using AI-augmented tools and automation to improve documentation workflows, productivity, and efficiency. Experience working with pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CRO, or life sciences organizations.
