Job Description

This role focuses on repairing and maintaining progressive production dies in a high-volume stamping facility. You will split your time between precision work in the tool room and in-press repairs on large transfer and progressive stamping presses, ensuring reliable, efficient, and safe production operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform progressive production die repair and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of tooling.
• Work approximately 50% of the time in the tool room using lathes, mills, drill presses, radial drills, grinders, sanders, and jig borers to diagnose, repair, and refurbish dies and components.
• Spend approximately 50% of the time performing in-press die repairs, adjustments, and troubleshooting on transfer and progressive stamping presses.
• Inspect dies and related components to identify wear, damage, or misalignment and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Set up, align, and test dies in stamping presses ranging from 400 to 2,000 tons, including Danley and Ravne brands, to verify proper function and part quality.
• Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to perform accurate die repairs and modifications.
• Use precision measuring tools and equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances during and after repairs.
• Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve stamping and die-related issues quickly and effectively.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the tool room and press areas.
• Document repair activities, changes, and adjustments to support traceability and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in progressive production die repair.
• Hands-on experience performing die repairs in-press for approximately 50% of the time.
• Proficiency working in a tool room environment using lathes, mills, drill presses, radial drills, grinders, sanders, and jig borers.
• Strong experience with progressive and transfer stamping die repair in a production setting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings for die repair and setup.
• Capability to troubleshoot and repair dies used in stamping presses ranging from 400 to 2,000 tons.
• Experience working with progressive stamping operations and related tooling.
• Ownership of a suitable toolbox with tools necessary to perform die repair tasks.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in precision machining and fitting work.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in both tool room and press floor environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Journeyman’s card in a related trade is preferred.
• TIG welding experience is a plus.
• Experience with Danley and Ravne stamping presses is beneficial.
• in stamping and robot welding facilities is advantageous.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position is based in a stamping and robot welding facility operating multiple transfer and progressive stamping presses ranging from 400 to 2,000 tons, including Danley and Ravne brands. You will work in both the tool room and on the press floor, using equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, radial drills, grinders, sanders, and jig borers. The role is on off-shifts, with a 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and a 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (starting at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday nights). The environment is industrial and production-focused, with active stamping and robot welding operations and a strong emphasis on safety, precision, and adherence to established procedures

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Royal Oak, MI.

The pay range for this position is $36.20 - $36.45/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Royal Oak,MI.
