Occupational Therapist - PRN - Hospital - Tulsa

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education - Completion of an accredited program for Occupational Therapists recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Occupational Therapy Education or approved successor organization.


Experience - Minimum of one (1) year or relevant experience preferred.

Licenses & Certification - Incumbent must possess and maintain a current Occupational Therapy license by the Oklahoma Medical Board of Licensure and Supervision. Incumbent must have a BLS certification.

Knowledge & Skills -

1. Knowledge and experience of the principles and procedures of Occupational Therapy and it's relationship to health, treatment and prevention of disability, quality of life issues and the value of interdisciplinary interaction through supervision and monitoring of an Occupational Therapy Program.
2. Ability and skill in assessment, planning and carrying out treatment modalities, patient education and discharge planning for a variety of inpatient and outpatient situations.
3. Knowledge of major aspects of patient management such as evaluation, treatment plan and administration.
4. Knowledge of personnel and rehab services management practices, methods and principles.
5. Ability to develop and monitor quality assurance plans in accordance with pertinent rules, standards, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable.
6. Ability to use personal computers operating general office software in a Windows environment.
7. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, medical staff, administrative staff, health care professionals and the general public both orally and in writing.
9. Ability to remain calm and respond quickly in high stress situations as needed.

JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of the position is to plan, develop, direct and coordinate occupational therapy activities for inpatients and outpatients within the designated service area of the Muscogee Nation Department of Health. This is a non-exempt position as applicable to the provisions of the FLSA.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an inpatient and outpatient health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and/or emotionally disturbed patients, families, and visitors. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work in the ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between exam and treatment rooms, and long periods of moving about the work unit. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, kneeling, and lifting of patients or similar activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

1. Interpret physician orders. Provide direct patient care through evaluation and treatment programs including instruction to patients and their families in specific occupational therapy programs.
2. Plans and carries out occupational therapy for general and surgical patients.
3. Teach exercises and movements to be performed by patients to prevent the occurrence of deformities or to lessen impact of deformities. Educate patients and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation.
4. Perform special tests to carry out complex procedures, determine the degree of muscle reactions to tests and interprets results of tests.
5. Assess the level of patient care on a continuing basis and updates procedures as necessary.
6. Provide consultation and evaluation of occupational therapy services to physician, nursing and other professional at the service unit using tact, good judgment and persuasiveness.
7. Attend medical staff rounds on a regular basis to keep updated on inpatient problems and recommend appropriate occupational therapy intervention.
8. Keeps clear and accurate records on patients seen in accordance with established policy.
9. Provides legal and ethical supervision of occupational therapy assistant assuming responsibility for the patients served by the assistant.
10. Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies and uses professional Code of Ethics and standards of practice that affect occupational therapy practice and guide ethical decision making in practice.
11. Participates in continuing education for professional development to ensure practice consistent with best practice and to meet licensure requirements.
12. Maintains and cleans equipment used by department and demonstrates responsible and proper use of supplies.
13. Regular attendance is required.
14. Performs other duties as required.
