The Pulmonary Specialty Clinic Nurse coordinates outpatient care for patients with advanced pulmonary diseases, serving multiple subspecialty programs such as interstitial lung disease, asthma, alpha‑1 antitrypsin deficiency, and COPD. Responsibilities include direct patient care, patient and family education, triage (telephone, MyChart, and in‑person), provider inbox coverage, scheduling referrals, obtaining outside medical records, ensuring access to routine and specialty medications and durable medical equipment (including oxygen therapy), coordinating prior authorizations, organizing patient education and support activities, advancing research, facilitating multidisciplinary care coordination, and maintaining clinic‑specific reports and quality metrics. The role collaborates with physicians and the broader care team to provide urgent care outside the clinic, coordinate with outside clinicians, vendors, hospitals, and community resources, and serve as a key liaison to promote continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes. Autonomy in nursing care is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary contexts, with expectations at the PRACTITIONER level per ANA Standards of Practice. Minimum Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of California BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at hire with commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months Three (3) years of directly related experience in a large complex healthcare or clinic setting One (1) year of nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting Knowledge of and experience in a pulmonary setting Experience with patient triage, in‑basket management, and appointment scheduling Knowledge of EPIC/Cadence for insurance authorization Ability to maintain accurate records Knowledge of various insurance types and authorization processes Medical terminology, preferably pulmonary medicine Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions regarding patient needs Knowledge of general office operations, principles, computer skills, and data entry, especially with charge entry and scheduling Ability to determine importance of calls and appropriate referral areas Solid interpersonal skills and effective communication, in person and by telephone, with diverse groups Organizational skills for processing high volumes of work accurately and timely Ability to interpret policies and procedures, extract, compile, analyze, and present pertinent information Must be able to work independently with limited supervision, analyze situations, and develop options and recommendations Preferred Qualifications BSN Two (2) years of ambulatory care nursing experience Knowledge of and experience in a pulmonary specialty/Interstitial lung disease clinic Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families Special Conditions May be required to work at all pulmonary locations Employment subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council Pay Transparency Act Annual full pay range: $138,330 – $193,892 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%).
