Summary :

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer is a key contributor within the Engineering organization, responsible for the design, development, integration, verification, and support of embedded software solutions for vehicle electronic systems. This role provides technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, collaborates with cross-functional teams and customers, and helps drive innovation, quality, and continuous improvement across engineering projects.

The ideal candidate possesses strong expertise in embedded software development, vehicle communications, modern software development practices, and system-level problem solving. This position supports the development of products used in commercial vehicles, specialty vehicles, and other transportation applications.

Job Specific Competencies:

1. Software Engineering

· Design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain embedded software solutions for vehicle electronic products.

· Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, architecture, design, implementation, verification, validation, release, and maintenance.

· Develop software using Embedded C and C++ for ARM-based microcontrollers and processors.

· Create and maintain software design documentation, test plans, traceability artifacts, and technical reports.

· Perform software debugging, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root-cause analysis.

· Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.

· Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and development methodologies.

2. System Integration

· Collaborate with hardware, systems, validation, and manufacturing teams to integrate and validate software solutions.

· Support system bring-up, bench testing, vehicle testing, and production launches.

· Investigate and resolve software, hardware, and communication-related issues.

· Support development and validation of vehicle communication networks including CAN, CAN FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet where applicable.

3. Technical Leadership

· Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

· Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and technical decision-making.

· Promote engineering best practices, code quality, and process improvements.

· Support estimation, planning, and risk assessment activities for engineering projects.

4. Project Support

· Develop effort estimates and support project planning activities.

· Assist project leaders and management in identifying technical risks and mitigation strategies.

· Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and product demonstrations as required.

5. Collaboration

· Work closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout product development and production.

· Collaborate with customers to support requirements analysis, issue resolution, validation activities, and product enhancements.

· Support manufacturing, quality, and field service organizations during product launches and sustaining activities.

6. Quality and Compliance

· Follow established quality management processes and engineering procedures.

· Support compliance with applicable automotive, regulatory, customer, and company requirements.

· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve product quality, reliability, and development efficiency.

7. Documentation

· Maintain accurate project records, development documentation, technical reports, and time reporting.

· Ensure software documentation remains current and supports traceability requirements.

8. Legal and Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and workplace safety requirements.

· Follow ISO quality management procedures and company policies.

· Support compliance activities related to customer and industry standards where applicable.

Working Conditions

Movement - This position   needs to occasionally move about inside the office and on the production   floor. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to stand; walk; use   hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Operate/Use - Must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. copier, printer, calculator)

Ascend/Descend - Rarely   ascends/descends stairs to reach archived files

Communicate - This position frequently communicates with co-workers, managers and supervisors. Must be able to exchange accurate   information in these situations.

Transport - This position regularly lifts or moves 10 pounds, frequently lifts or moves up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moves up to 50 pounds for various needs.

Vision - Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment - Relatively quiet but fast paced.

Travel - Occasional   travel to customers and vendors, with overnight stays, may be required.

  Minimum Qualifications and Education

Education

• Bachelor's      degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering,      Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field.
• Equivalent      combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

• 7+ years of embedded software development experience.
• Experience developing real-time embedded software for 32-bit microcontroller and      processor-based systems.
• Experience working in automotive, commercial vehicle, transportation, industrial, or      other embedded systems industries preferred.

Technical Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Embedded C and modern C++.
• Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers and processors (STM32, Renesas, NXP,      Infineon, TI, or similar).
• Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and multitasking embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of microcontroller architecture, memory management,      interrupts, and peripheral drivers.
• Experience with hardware interfaces including CAN, CAN FD, LIN, UART, SPI, I2C, PWM,      ADC, and GPIO.
• Experience with CAN development and diagnostic tools such as Vector CANalyzer, CANoe,      CAPL, Intrepid, or equivalent.
• Experience with software verification, validation, integration testing, and      debugging.
• Experience with Git-based version control systems and collaborative development      workflows.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated build systems, and software quality tools.
• Experience with embedded Linux development is highly desirable.
• Experience with UDS diagnostics, bootloaders, and firmware update mechanisms is a      plus.

Industry Knowledge

• Understanding of the automotive software development lifecycle.
• Familiarity with automotive communication protocols and vehicle networks.
• Knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture is a plus.
• Familiarity with Functional Safety concepts (ISO 26262) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Automotive Cybersecurity practices and ISO/SAE 21434 is a plus.
• Understanding of MISRA C/C++ coding guidelines is desirable.

• Experience participating in DFMEA, design reviews, and systems engineering      activities.
• Experience supporting products through production launch and field support.
